	The order is out the door and we expect to have the new machines in hand in 2 weeks. We are getting two identical HP servers, each consisting of: A Proliant DL180 G6 chassis with redundant power and fans. The chassis has 12 drive bays and these are all populated with 1TB 3G SATA drives 2 Xeon quad core E5620 processors. 96GB RAM as 6x16GB DIMMs. This allows for doubling the memory while still using the original DIMMs. An external (unpopulated) 12 bay drive cage. We may well need this for the science DB server (oscar). ____________

	Well I'll be blowed, I was only talking about Compaq Proliant servers a couple of days ago! They may be HP badged but that is essentially what they are. Intel is also by my experiences more reliable, more forgiving of "abuse"(heat/dust/etc). This is my own experience, and people can argue all day about it. But the lab is ordering what they think they need. And I have to say they are the subject matter experts. ____________ Janice

	Thanks for the update. 16GB DIMMs ~ $1200.00USD a piece. Zounds! So what kind of hard drives are we talking about specifically? Exactness might get one drop shipped from Newegg.

	Just did a quick configure on HP's site and the the cost (per server) comes out to roughly $15,778. Were you guys able to talk them in to a discount at all? The hard drives are listed in the configurator as "HP 1TB 3G SATA 7.2K Hot Plug 3.5 MDL Hard Drive." Look for something along those lines if you'd like. And for those wondering, HP made server machines long before they bought Compaq. Check out the old HP Vectra's, 9000/800 Series, or the 3000 Series (if you don't mind counting a "terminal" server; an HP 3000/950 cost $305,000 in 1987). Justin ____________

Justin Can't remember which thread I saw it in, but yes, it has been said that they got a significant discount. I should think a quick mention on the website and listing in the server status page that they are HP Proliants should do the trick with a bit of a thank you...
