The order is out the door and we expect to have the new machines in hand in 2 weeks. Well, I've been told that twins (especially identical) are a lot more fun. Sure hope so. ____________

Have you guys moved your cots and sleeping bags in yet? Having those toys to play with I can't see you wanting to leave the lab! :-)

Well I'll be blowed, I was only talking about Compaq Proliant servers a couple of days ago! They may be HP badged but that is essentially what they are. I admined half a dozen Proliant 6000 servers in the late 90's and damn good kit they were too.

hi there i am proberly talking rubbish but i thought AMD servers where better on a performance per $ is this true ???? My own experiences tell me that is true on paper. Not for my actual experience. Intel is also by my experiences more reliable, more forgiving of "abuse"(heat/dust/etc). This is my own experience, and people can argue all day about it. But the lab is ordering what they think they need. And I have to say they are the subject matter experts. ____________ Janice

Just did a quick configure on HP's site and the the cost (per server) comes out to roughly $15,778. Were you guys able to talk them in to a discount at all?

But can they play Fallout: New Vegas? Or Crysis 2? ;-) Ha!! As far as I can tell NOTHING can play Fallout New Vegas properly :-) My company uses a lot of the HP Proliant M370's, DL140, etc. Good machines. Will be worth waiting for. Bernie ____________

Just did a quick configure on HP's site and the the cost (per server) comes out to roughly $15,778. Were you guys able to talk them in to a discount at all? Can't remember which thread I saw it in, but yes, it has been said that they got a significant discount. I should think a quick mention on the website and listing in the server status page that they are HP Proliants should do the trick with a bit of a thank you... But can they play Fallout: New Vegas? Or Crysis 2? ;-) You're right! The amount of times I've been reset to desktop for doing nothing particular in the game (move mouse, press space bar, click E (for interaction)) go farther than the amount of fingers I have total. ;-) The patch didn't help me. ____________ Jord - BOINC FAQ Service - BOINC User Wiki Real is just a matter of perception.
