Is there anyway to stop the screensaver from spinning? Everything I find shows a screen I do not see when I go to update "seti@home preferences".

Set all "oscillation" to 0 (zero) here:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project

( Click Edit SETI@home preferences (bottom of page)
change oscillation values and use [Update preferences] button
)

Then in BOINC Manager -> Projects tab
select SETI@home and press [Update] button (at the left)

Set all "oscillation" to 0 (zero)

Actually, you won't see those on a 'normal account'.

First off you have to edit the project preferences and set Graphics preferences to Custom. Then save the changes to the web site.

Only now, when you edit the preferences again, will you be able to change all preferences with "oscillation" in the name to zero. Set "Graphics preferences" to anything but "Custom" and you won't see any of these options.

When I click the seti@home preferences I don't see anything that allows me to change the oscillation values and use. I looked around on BOINC manager and don't see it there either.

Click on SETI@Home Preferences on the web site. Click on "Custom" in the screen saver section. Click on save. Re-open the SETI@Home preferences. You will then be able to see the settings that need to be changed. These settings are available on the Web only.

I get sea sick looking at it.

What was wrong with the old screen saver - it was easy on the senses, provided the same amount of data and was *still*.

Newer is not always better, you guys in design.

Except that the old screen saver didn't move and therefore didn't "save" the screen. Many people experienced screen burn with the old screen saver, so in their case, newer is better.

though LCD's really don't need to be screen saved since they aren't having electrons shot at the screen

...and that's true, but the project is using a single code for the screen saver for all OS types using OpenGL. No sense in supporting two screen savers.
