Have to say this is the last straw and I am quiting. I have detached all of my rigs that have run dry, and as soon as Rig on a Bench has finished it's wu's then it will be detached as well. Several things have lead me to this action. Cost of running rigs have hit an all time high. Servers being down for longer than planned, and being down when they are supposed to be working. No messages telling us users what is happening. Need I say more. I will monitor the pages and may come back when things have stabilised. I wish everyone happy crunching and hope that the WOW factor is found. Best of luck but I am finnished. Dave |

Sorry to see you go. This is a search that may well take thousands of years with no guarentee of success. We are a part of that search. Will you be crunching other projects? Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Crunching as a member of GPU Users Group. GPUUG Website |

Sorry to hear that Dave. You know what a shoestring budget Seti is being run on. They don't have the equipment or staff to cope with the load that we're putting on them. That's why there was a donation drive to purchase a new Server. I hope you'll reconsider, but it is your choice. I hope you'll stay. regards, Giz. A proud GPU User Server Donor! |

No. There was only Seti that I was interested in. Will be shutting the rigs down. Dave |

Sorry about the shoestring budget but I was contributing around £400 / $500 per quarter towards the project.I feel that this could be better spent. Dave |

I will always respect somebody decision, to quit, chose another project or whatever, can be millions of reasons to stop crunching. Especially the Power Crunchers, which use these boards, quite a lot and mostly for a good reason. But I'm sorry to see you leave, this, 'endless-search' which could easily take another 10, 100 or more years, so it's hard to say if this is a meaningfull search, I think it is, cause other Outer-Space-Events could be picked up, c.q. detected. This 'last outage', was, in a way, planned, but with such a big SERVER SET UP, very much things only works if all Functions are UP and RUNNING. I do hope SETI Bêta, will be UP and RUNNING, soon, not 'only' cause I've a lot of MB tasks are still trying to Report. |

I understand your feelings. Hopefully everything will be sorted out in the end hopefully when the new server has been deployed.. Remember to drop by from time to time to check upon us. Sorry about the shoestring budget but I was contributing around £400 / $500 per quarter towards the project.I feel that this could be better spent. Nobody was questioning your commitment and budget that you were allowing for Seti. Also, everyone can see your green star. I only got mine a little while ago. It has been said before that if all active users contributed $10 per year, Seti would almost certainly be self-funding. As it is, they run on a shoestring. I too, only crunch Seti. As soon as it goes down I want it back up again. I spend more than I should on computer parts and electricity costs. I always consider how well they'll crunch before doing any upgrades. On top of that, I've got friends here. Haven't met any of you personally, but I still consider you all friends. You could cut back your commitment by shutting everything down except one, or you could shut them all down and leave. I'd still prefer you to stay, but I leave it up to you. Giz. I'm not sure why people seem to think that they need to explain themselves online. We are anonymous observers of each other. Most of us wouldn't recognize each other in real life. If you choose to leave feel free to stop doing whatever it is you've ben doing and just go. I think its silly to explain. You're not divorcing us and we aren't breaking up. You chose to come here. Did we get a diatribe on why you came. unlikely. So why should we get one when you decide you've had enough. Good day to you and good luck. As far as your reasons, Oh well. You and everyone else here knows that Seti admins ask and insist you run a side project for down times. Should it be a surprise that the down times actually happen? I don't think so. I can understand how you feel. When they switched over to BOINC I refused to use it as I thought it was rather awful. So I took a 4.5 year break. As I am not trying to process as possible by using a bunch of GPUs. I just let my machines do whatever on their own which works out ok for me. Sometimes I check to see if the machines are running each day & other times I don't check them for 3 or 4 days. I think it's totally fair to say goodbye on these boards if you don't feel like continuing. I also understand if people have had it and quit, no matter the money situation of the project which I think most know about. Me, I will stay here (haven't donated what I have and then quit...). |

Have to say this is the last straw and I am quiting. Sorry to see you leave but for some reason I don't think they care. With all the problems lately they could have missed this outage...... Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

Go run cosmology@home for awhile. Then, and only then, are you allowed to use this statement. |

When the project is down for an outage of 3 days which is the norm now. The admins have not changed the message. It still says that on a Tuesday there is an outage of 3 to 4 hours. This is not usefull for anyone that is checking. It would only take a few mins to change it, it looks like they can't be bothered to ammend even the simplest of messages. This is just one of a number of things that could be done to make it look a bit more professional. Dave |

When the outage is on the pages that you try to access ie account say that there is a 3 to 4 hour outage every Tuesday. This was still the case today before the web pages came back online. There was also no mention that the 3 day outage would start at 6am on Monday this week. Dave |

Jeff Cobb posted the latest update a full 44 minutes before you posted your quit message with the complaint they weren't posting anything. Of course, you won't see it if all you have bookmarked are the front page and the NC forums, or you expect Technical News to be anywhere else than the technical news forum. |
