Maybe we should start a thread on SETI Cafe. However, since you're a Trekkor, how would you compare the last words of dialogue in the final episodes of the original ST series and the NG. I see significance in Captain Kirk's and Captain Piccard's final line, respectively. Wonder if you see it differently. Not exactly a trivia question but fun anyway in the asking. Let me know. :-> Again, apologies to everyone for the topic driftage. Regards, Robert CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. I don't even remember what the last episode of the original was. Too many execs wanted to cancel it. In "All Good Things" I remember that Piccard walks up to Troy and Worf in the passageway just as in the beggining of the episode. He asks them what the star date was/is. All my tapes are packed and stored except for Enterprise. The box weighs in at about 200 pounds or so, if that will give you an idea of how many tapes I have. There's no way I could research this without a great deal of effort. If you could, would you enlighten me? I just do not remember.... L8R.... --- CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? I dont remember the of the name of the last episode but it had to do with a woman switching places with Kirk in a 'freaky friday' sort of way. > Too many execs wanted to cancel it. The last scene was Picard inviting himself to a game of poker in Riker's quarters. "Five card stud, nothings wild, and the skies the limit" was the last line per memory. |

"Five card stud, nothings wild, and the skies the limit" was the > last line per memory. > Ahh, you are so right, sir. I remember the episode with Kirk's switching, but cannot remember the title either. It has been years since I saw that episode too. Kirk (Shatner) really showed his feminine side too. I just looked at the other post and Rick Donovan reminded me of the title, Turnabout Intuder. And, you are right about the poker game as well. I forgot it too. Been years since last I saw it as well. That was the final line Picard said. Now all I need to do is figure out the final line Kirk said to see what Dr. Bob was talking about. Rick Donovan mentioned "We've been what!?" as the last line Kirk said. @ Dr. Bob: Kirk - "We've been what!?" -- The show has been cancelled. Picard - "Five card stud, nothing's wild and the sky's the limit." -- Star Trek will never end, maybe. They may end with the fifth regular T.V. show S.T.: Enterprise, but movies can go on and on and on.... But, they will have to inject new blood into Star Trek no matter the incarnation. I believe that they could go with an anthological format, different stories, different players.... L8R.... --- CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. OK, the way I remember it...And Siran, you and I both know that with your Vulcan physique you could lift all those boxes easily, so Kroika with all the excuses, OK? Alright... Wait a minute, gotta take a sip of Tranya. Ahhhh... OK, the way I remember it, at the very end of "Turnabout Intruder," Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and He's Dead Jim, are lamenting the misfortune of the Captain's old girlfriend (and the Turnabout Intruder of the episode's title), Dr. Janice Lester, and the last words Captain Kirk says as they roll credits is, "If only...If only..." (I have to say I think Rick Donovan's "We've been what?!" is hysterical. Sense of humor like that is partly why I lurk around these parts.) Absolutely right on the last line in STNG. Captain Piccard is dealing a hand of five-card stud, and Piccard's final words in this final episode are "The sky's the limit." So, last lines in the original are "If only..." And the final words in The Next Generation are "The sky's the limit." For me, a guy who watched every re-run as though it were the first airing, those final lines of dialogue seemed so poignantly to reflect the plight of the original and the bright-future attitudes of NG, respectively. The first show was so under-funded they left in shots that showed the hands and arms of stagehands pulling open "automatic" shuttle-craft hatches; and did not fix the continuity breaks when camera-angle changes showed (e.g., in "Devil In The Dark") Captain Kirk holding a phaser in one shot, and then *CUT* to a different camera POV and he's gripping a communicator. In addition, the original series never got the ratings, never received the viewer support from We the People (or, "E pleb niste"). In the NG, although it took a while for the writers to get rolling, they had a great deal more funding to work with. No stagehand fingers pulling turbolift doors open, no obvious continuity problems. It was a slick show, executed nearly perfectly as near as I could see. And the NG series got high ratings, great viewer support. Deservedly so. So that's my two cents. Seems to me that the last lines in each of the shows were poignant and symbolic. But Siran, with your incredibly developed look-ahead powers, born of your equally incredibly Vulcanized gray matter, you instantly knew what I was going to say herein and you let me ramble on and on. Why? For what reason? For...What...Reason? :-> |

I thought Enterprise would be dull because since we know "the future of Star Trek" we know that they cant fail... but then they kept throwing temporal agents into the mix. Of course they have another full season so thats kind of a tip off too... I did hear rumors that Rick Berman wants to make a movie that continues where DS9 left off. Theres a big hole left in that series with Sisko changing into a Prophet or whatever the worm hole aliens were. |
