For the past week, S@H is not uploading my completed wu's. I get the message: "Message from server: _(unknown app name in app_info.xml" Please advise, and thank you in advance. |

Well, the Error Message says it all - you have a wrong Entry in your app_info.xml. Maybe you can post here your app_info.xml? Would be useful. ;-) Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

You might also give us a hint as to what machine is giving the problem and post some of the messages around the message about the wrong entry. I think it's your power mac but I can't be sure as it doesn't look to be running optimized. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

perryjay - No - my Macs are running fine. It's on a laptop running Vista. Helli - setiathome_enhanced 6.03. Where do I find the xml data? |

In your BOINC Data directory under "..\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\..". You can do a File Search about app_info.xml on your Hard Drive.. Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

I did a search and there are no xml files. I should state that this is a Seti Beta Test project. |

C:\ProgramData\BOINC\ is a hidden directory, hence why it and its contents won't show up in a search. Put that link directly in the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter. Then continue to projects and into setiathome.berkeley.edu_beta\ Why are you running an anonymous platform on Beta? Never read Winterknight's post, more specifically point 6? |

Ageless - I did the search and got a "You don't have permission" message, which is weird because it's my laptop. I went to my windows file preferences and check "Hidden" files, and I still don't see any xml files. Is there anything else in the file name I can look for? Hmmmm. I didn't know I was running an anonymous platform. Forgive my ignorance, but how do I correct? Thanks, again. |

First off, you did set BOINC up on C drive didn't you? If not, go to the drive where BOINC lives but otherwise it should be the same. Did you find program data? It should show up now that you un-hid your files. In program data find BOINC and in there should be the projects file. In that should be seti@home.edu. In there should be your app_info.xml file. Make sure you shut down SETI and BOINC before you play around with that just to be safe. To stop the anon. platform remove the app_info. but first set no new tasks and run down all your present work or you will lose it. When you start back up SETI will download the stock app and new work. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

I did a search and there are no xml files. I should state that this is a Seti Beta Test project. Since the outage, my Seti Beta uploads aren't going through eithier, i suspect the upload process isn't running, Claggy |

For the past week, S@H is not uploading my completed wu's. I get the message: "Message from server: _(unknown app name in app_info.xml" Which project are you seeing the "Message from server: _(unknown app name in app_info.xml" on? Remember 'Seti' and 'Seti Beta' are different projects, while i see that you are running Anonymous platform on the Main Seti project, i see no evidence of you running Anonymous platform on Seti Beta, Does your app_info on the Main Seti Project have references to the the Obsolete 'astropulse' or 'astropulse_v5' apps?, as your apps you're running aren't the latest revisions, If you are running Anonymous platform on Seti Beta, does your app_info have a reference to 'astropulse_v505'? (which isn't used on that project) Claggy |

It is SetiBeta that I'm having the problem with. Also - No astropulse in a search. Are we no longer processing astropulse work? |

You can check where your data directory resides by exiting BOINC (BOINC Manager->File->Exit->check "Stop running science applications on exiting Manager" (or similar words)->OK) and restarting it (Start->(All) Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager). In the Messages tab it'll show where your Data directory is. E.g. from my system: 18/09/2010 23:47:04 | | Data directory: D:\ProgramData\BOINC Just scroll back up, it'll say it between the Libraries line and the account you run BOINC under. |

I have been getting HTTP errors with regards to Beta for a few days now. Some WUs get to 100% evenso the complete file isn't uploaded, then it drops down to 0 again after awhile. So I think, the problem in on their end, but I am no Tecky. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

Well... Things just got weird. was studying all of your suggestions, but hadn't made any changes, when Boinc started acting up - every time I open Boinc, I get the message "Communicating with Boinc client, please wait." And then nothing happens - the message never goes away, and Boinc never launches. So I went to Boinc, downloaded the newest software and installed it. No change - I still get the communication message that never goes away. Help! |
