Since the servers came back up this time... WU's are very slow and erratic downloading. It's taking me forever to get 25 WU's... like almost an hour or more.

I DONATE money to SETI@home.... DO YOU?

I'm just slowly BOINC'ing along.

Hey... ET... you have a sister who likes earthlings?

This is 'normal' after the 3 day outage..
The internet connection to/from SETI@home is now maxed out.

It's possible, that this will last to Sunday or Monday.. - then your BOINCs will DL the WUs faster..

Since this so called "3-Day Outage" is in Reality a 5-Day Outage - rise your Cache to 6 Days. :-)

I tend to agree with Frostking, I don't think the servers are handling the the recovery this week (or last week) as well as they have done on previous occasions.

If the site listed 1884 for "In progress" then yes, they are the ghosts.

Downloads pretty trashed here too......
But Cricket shows the bandwidth maxed out, so the work is going out.
Either that, or it is being used up by botched comms.

And I thought you are an: 'Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons...' ;-)

I needed to press 'a few times' the 'Retry Now' button in my BOINCs, that all WUs were DLed before the last outage.. IIRC, Tuesday morning (MET) the last came down (a few hours before the outage)..

Wouldn't that have been a good time to do a detach/reattach to free the ghost work units?

..or is the detach/reattach procedure no longer the recommended approach to clearing ghosts and allowing for their reissue?

9/10/10 13:55:24 SETI@home Started download of ap_27mr10ab_B4_P0_00287_20100907_17795.wu
9/11/10 04:11:58 SETI@home Finished download of ap_27mr10ab_B4_P0_00287_20100907_17795.wu

Of course if I had not been abusing the Retry button (<num_retries>151</num_retries>), it would still be trying to download and getting a small amount after each backoff averaging 2 hours. Dial-up makes the situation nearly impossible, the small dribble of actual transfer for each attempt doesn't get a lot of data. This isn't a complaint, just an illustration which those of you with broadband might find interesting.

I did notice an interesting episode yesterday afternoon where data actually came in at near the 40 kbps maximum rate my dial-up delivers, I got nearly 15% of that AP WU in about a 10 minute period. At that time, vader was active as a download server, but its file_deleter, db_purge, sah_assimilator, and mb_splitter processes were all "Not running". I did not check to see whether I was getting that data from vader or bane, so don't know whether the improvement was due to overall reduced conflicts because so many processes weren't running or more directly because Apache on vader was getting almost all of its CPU time.
                                                                 Joe

I actually got all the waiting downloads on my Q8200 finished after I clicked once on try again, they came down at a respectable rate.

Uploads are another thing entirely.

Looks like they are rotating between uploads and downloads, to let us get caught up but not overload (and overheat) the servers. The splitters are off, too, so they are working off the backlog of new tasks and resends.

Earlier (1440 PDT/2140 UTC) I was able to download 2 Tasks for my empty G4, and I just got all 4 of my completed Tasks uploaded and reported.

And some of my long-pending Tasks came back from the wingmen and validated! All the July issues are gone, Yaaaah!
