Quite an interesting uptake. Hopefully some positive interest and dialogue will follow. At the very least, it can be seen that Christian and Muslim can be seen in the same picture to work through a fraught stance:

Florida pastor unclear about Quran burning

... The imam said he feels Jones is a "good person at heart" who simply got himself into a difficult position and could not back down, despite calls from Christian and world leaders.

"He could not back down, and I felt that it's my responsibility, as the Muslim leader in central Florida, to go up to him and speak one on one with him and explain that he's putting American lives in danger and he should reconsider."

Jones' plan to burn Qurans had set off a worldwide firestorm of concern...

All amazing for the power of the media and for free speech and for something that we in the 'west' take for granted. I hope some of the positive light can shine through to Iran...

It's ALL our world,
Martin

Just what the world needs now(Not), A repeat of the Book Burnings in the 1930's in Europe(Nazi Germany). Some I see are doomed to repeat History, After the Koran, What's next? [sarcasm]A book written by Einstein or Sir Isaac Newton [/sarcasm] Americans everywhere outside the USA will be in danger for their very lives from some of the 1.5 Billion Muslims who know nothing but what their told by those who may only believe that fellow Muslims don't lie, The USA was not founded as a Christian Nation, But as refuge from Religious Persecution... Hence the Puritans colonizing in Massachusetts...

If this idiot Jones owns a book, he can do as he wishes with it.

The real issue here, in my mind, is the reaction of the corporate media.
The media has chosen to make this non-news event into a circus and we all must ask ourselves why?

It suits the powerful elites in America to keep the frenzy of hate rolling along. They have a need of this hate and fear in order to continue funding the war economy dispite the common knowledge that other aspects of society are suffering due to lack of funding.

The real issue is control of public opinion and the elites are the ones who control the message.
By attending this idiotic event and beaming the images worldwide, the corporate media is doing it's job of whipping up greater hatered and fear on both sides, thus insuring a continuance of heightened "defence" spending.

True. I also find it truly disgusting that those who have fanned the embers of fear and hatred of Islam are now quietly sitting back and smiling while the media whips up a firestorm. Idiots like Newt Gingrich and his "Sharia Law" Constitutional Amendment and those claiming that a cultural center built by American muslims is somehow a monument to terrorism.

Eid Mubarak!

Orlando, Florida (CNN) -- The city of Gainesville, Florida, plans to send a bill estimated at more than $180,000 to Pastor Terry Jones for security costs surrounding his controversial threat to burn Qurans on the anniversary of the September, 11, 2001, attacks, a police spokeswoman said Friday.

Police agencies spent more than a month working on security plans to ensure the community surrounding Jones' Dove World Outreach Center -- the planned site of the burning -- was safe, according to Gainesville police spokeswoman Cpl. Tscharna Senn.

HA! The good Reverend forgot that our freedoms aren't free. The local police and county sheriff's office had to make sure that he, his church, and his "flock" was kept safe. I love how he said that if he knew the church would be charged, they would not have asked for security. Right. If someone managed to burn his church down, he would have gone running to file a lawsuit. Pay up, Mr. Jones.

And they still would have had to provide it to the rest of the town from the riot that would have ensued. The Reverend hasn't learned that actions have consequences. I thought good parents got that into their kids before kindergarten. The only ones who don't learn that lesson are sociopaths.
