We all know books burn.
Anyone else want to tar and feather the idiot, Terry Jones, in Florida?
It wasn't all of Islam, but a few misguided fanatics just like Mr. Jones. He needs to be tarred and feathered and run out of America. That would be a dang good example of what should be done to fanatics and America should lead by example.

You know.. I have been thinking of organizing a book burning recently.
No, not one that makes the statement "this should be censored!" or to cleanse dangerous ideas, or anything of the sort.
One that would ask everyone to bring one, and only one book from their shelves that meets the following criteria:
1:They are sorry they bought it or were given it and tried to read it.
2: Was so bad they would not give it to a friend.
This could be a multi-cultural, multi-political, multi-religion and just
plain nutty thing to do. If done on a cold night could be a great way to clean house AND keep warm.
And no I probably would never do it. But I have thoughts.

Thank goodness there are people like the Pastor from Florida. Tired of all the butt-kissing liberals and other frightened politically correct people.
Can't wait for him to set flame to pile. Of course, the Fire Dept. is there to douse it immediately and then cite him for violation of the code.
So be it. He'll only get a second or so of burning, but what a second!
Pastor: Thank you! You the man.

My mother was reading her sunday paper and found 50 books that are still banned/burned in the US. Most of these books cause the individual to actually think. Apparently, this is anti American in some way. Most of the books that were declared anti-social were the books that were clearly not Conservative enough. Why else would Animal Farm and Brave New World be banned. Heck, they've banned Huck Finn for decades because of the colorful use of the "N" word. Sad to think that as modern Americans we have to whitewash the way people think and thought. Heck, Twain/Clements was anti-slavery. The verbage was an honest look at society in the day. It's a shame that we can not see past the bigotry of today to see how wonderful these stories actually are.

Books do burn, this is true. The bigger question, to me, is why do we pay so much attention to the actions of the obviously mentally deficient?
Yes, yes, free speech and all that. Freedom of expression is protected in the U.S. If you'd like, you could dress in a unitard, cover yourself in grape jam (not jelly, important distinction) and walk the national mall carry a sign that says "Donna Martin graduates!!" Perhaps not the best use of your time, but you are certainly free to do it.
But why, for the love of Phelps, should this be a top news story? Why should I have to know who this person is? If we all work together and completely ignore people like this, then maybe they'll go away. It's worth a shot. |

that's what I told her. Sounds funny but its true. perhaps they should read that 128 page Novel and explain how their book burning is different from the books in a minimum of 500 words. It's actually a really quick read if you got bored and read fairly quickly. You also get to see what happens in the society that believes that fiction shouldn't be read because its not the truth. Perhaps this is the spark(wink) that Ricky Gervais used for The Invention of Lying[/i]

If this idiot Jones owns a book, he can do as he wishes with it.
The real issue here, in my mind, is the reaction of the corporate media.
The media has chosen to make this non-news event into a circus and we all must ask ourselves why?
It suits the powerful elites in America to keep the frenzy of hate rolling along. They have a need of this hate and fear in order to continue funding the war economy dispite the common knowledge that other aspects of society are suffering due to lack of funding.
The real issue is control of public opinion and the elites are the ones who control the message.
By attending this idiotic event and beaming the images worldwide, the corporate media is doing it's job of whipping up greater hatered and fear on both sides, thus insuring a continuance of heightened "defence" spending.

Not quite. He will need a permit to start a fire. Hope the city denies that.

Now Westboro Baptist Church will burn them if Terry Jones doesn't. Why am I not surprised? They're cut from the same cloth

side note on "banned" books.
Very few if any "banned" books are unavailable. Your local bookstore can order (if they do not have it in stock) Animal Farm, Huckleberry Fin, and most other titles.
There are some "how to" books that are not available in print any longer. Publishing ways to make things go boom ended up with liability issues beyond the publishers willingness to encounter. Not to mention the customer list was of great interest to law enforcement.
But "banned" books? banned from where?
