that would involve w*rk on my part!!!

Sorry, says I dont have enough credits to write in the forum.

Does the IP address of your computer affect Boinc from connecting? I travel for work, so the ip address is never the same, and online it says my ip is the same as when I am at home, not the new one on the road. My laptop continually says Retrieving Current Status. My Server continually says Processing Suspended: User Active.

The website wont even update the computer info on any of my computers running Boinc.

Thanks for a reply (if you want to).

To my knowledge it shouldn't matter. If I'm wrong, I'm sure others will jump in.

I don't think you need to have a Static I.P 'tadress, some I.S.P use Dynymic I.P's, it has to be possible to reach/connect to BOINC.
Maybe I don't understand the question, right?

I connect to different wireless points between work, home, and occasionally @ starbucks, and never have had a problem with the IP address causing any problems for uploads/downloads/reporting. I hope this is what the question was about, and I hope it answers it.

I have a dynamic IP and it has never been a problem. You will need the user name and password to input into each computer, and then it will remember for you. boinc/seti only respond when your computer makes the connection attempt.

The IP isn't important.

Because of, you could hide your IP with an entry in the 'cc_config.xml' file.
<suppress_net_info>0|1</suppress_net_info>

If enabled, don't send this host's IP address and domain name to servers. Otherwise, this information is sent to, and stored on, servers. It is visible to you (but not other users) via the web.

So it should work also with different IPs.

Has anyone thought to suggest Michael post for himself in the Question & Answers section? It doesn't require any RAC to post over there. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_help_desk.php

Sounds like two problems on 2 machines? The server has "Do work when computer is in use" set to No (unticked) and on the laptop boincmgr cannot connect to boinc.exe perhaps because of firewall blocking app connection via port 31416?
I have two routers at home (work and home) which give PCs different IP addresses and I connect via both at different times without problems.

hmm and I wonder how many of these problems are going to go away after server comes back up on friday?

Yes michael on top of what you are doing, the servers will be back up friday. Until then.. not much of anything unless you already have things to crunch.
