I have finally ventured into CUDA crunching with a rather ancient GF8800. I only set this up yesterday and the original "Time to completion" was around 28 hours, the actual completion time is between 15-20 minutes. My question is how long before this becomes closer to the real time. At the moment I am only getting 3 or 4 CUDA WU's at a time, this will obviously not last long during the outage. Is there a way to correct this. Bernie |

It will get better over time, but you can support BOINC, as you are running anonymous platform. Look for threads that contain "flops" or "<flops>" over at Number crunching. Welcome to CUDA crunching Bernie. Isn't it fun watching that little GPU fly? I see you got the latest Lunatics offering and plenty of work now. Looks like you are good to go. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

Yes all is now good, the time to completion suddenly dropped from 26 hours to around 30 minutes. So I have picked up plenty of work. I wasn't sure how long it took for the system to adjust, I read in another thread that it takes 10 validated results. Yes it is very satisfying to watch a WU "move up the queue" and finish in minutes rather than hours. So much so that I am thinking of getting a cheap CUDA card for another of my machines. Any suggestions? Bernie |

Depend of how much € you would like to pay.. ;-) 'Advice on graphic cards' If max. ~ 116.- € then maybe a manufacturer OCed GT240. |

Looks like you didn't wait for us Bernie. That's quite a nice little army you got going there now. Are you going to do the other two machines too? PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

Looks like you didn't wait for us Bernie. That's quite a nice little army you got going there now. Are you going to do the other two machines too? Well I actually started a thread over in NC. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=61331 Where I did get a fair amount of advice and the GT240 seemed to fit the bill all round. As to the other two, depending on the results from the other 3, 4241618 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=4241618 will hopefully get a CUDA card next month. However 4212602 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=4212602 is a CCTV machine I look after for a local charity, I haven't actually physically seen it for many months. I was going to resurrect this beast 4489474 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=4489474 is also has a GF8800 512meg, but it is my main machine I use for gaming and surfing and I prefer it to be idle at the moment. However we will see how things go. Bernie. |
