I'm sure I've seen this problem discussed before but I can't find it.

I've just Put a GeForce 8400 GS into my old desktop but BOINC won't detect it.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 and BOINC 6.10.56 (after a struggle). The NVIDIA driver version is 256.44

For that you'll have to ask the *nix gurus ;-)

Something like a unix "path" equivalent or some soft links perhaps? [edit]Or access rights to the video device (/dev/...)?[/edit]

OK... now BOINC can see the GPU but it won't download GPU tasks.

Any suggestions please?

Seti doesn't have a CUDA app for Linux. You'd have to use a third party app for that, and the only one I know of is one by Crunch3r, but for 64bit Linux only.
