I'm sure I've seen this problem discussed before but I can't find it. I've just Put a GeForce 8400 GS into my old desktop but BOINC won't detect it. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 and BOINC 6.10.56 (after a struggle). The NVIDIA driver version is 256.44 The startup messages are as follows... <pre> Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Starting BOINC client version 6.10.56 for i686-pc-linux-gnu Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Config: GUI RPC allowed from: Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8g zlib/1.2.3.3 c-ares/1.5.1 Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Data directory: /var/lib/boinc-client Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Duron(tm) processor [Family 6 Model 7 Stepping 0] Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Processor: 64.00 KB cache Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse syscall mmxext 3dnowext 3dnow up Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST OS: Linux: 2.6.28-19-generic Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Memory: 497.52 MB physical, 235.29 MB virtual Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Disk: 3.61 GB total, 638.31 MB free Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:13 BST Local time is UTC +1 hours Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:14 BST No usable GPUs found Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST Version change (6.2.18 -> 6.10.56) Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST SETI@home URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 5512423; resource share 70 Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST SETI@home General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 20-Aug-2010 13:27:22) Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST SETI@home Computer location: work Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST SETI@home General prefs: no separate prefs for work; using your defaults Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST Reading preferences override file Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST Preferences: Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST max memory usage when active: 373.14MB Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST max memory usage when idle: 447.77MB Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST max disk usage: 0.13GB Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25 % Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST (to change preferences, visit the web site of an attached project, or select Preferences in the Manager) Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST Not using a proxy Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST Running CPU benchmarks Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:15 BST Suspending computation - running CPU benchmarks Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:47 BST Benchmark results: Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:47 BST Number of CPUs: 1 Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:47 BST 581 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:24:47 BST 1335 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:25:20 BST SETI@home Restarting task 23ap10ag.11556.1294.16.10.228_1 using setiathome_enhanced version 603 Sat 28 Aug 2010 20:25:22 BST SETI@home Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. BBCode tags use square brackets ([pre][/pre]) I strongly recommend that you disable the "Suspend work if CPU usage is above" feature. Are your Nvidia drivers visible to BOINC? Without them, BOINC won't detect the GPU. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) SETI@home classic workunits 3,758 SETI@home classic CPU time 66,520 hours |

Are your Nvidia drivers visible to BOINC? Without them, BOINC won't detect the GPU. For that you'll have to ask the *nix gurus ;-) Something like a unix "path" equivalent or some soft links perhaps? [edit]Or access rights to the video device (/dev/...)?[/edit] Gruß, Gundolf |

OK... now BOINC can see the GPU but it won't download GPU tasks. Any suggestions please? |

Seti doesn't have a CUDA app for Linux. You'd have to use a third party app for that, and the only one I know of is one by Crunch3r, but for 64bit Linux only. |
