Hello everyone! This is my first post, and im a huge noob when it comes to computers and this things. But when i read about SETI@home, i thought i would try it out. And since i build my own computer last year, i tought i could use the extra CPU and GPU power, when it was avaible to do calculation for SETI. Well since the SETI project dont always have tasks for my PC i joined 2 more projects Milkyway@home and ihcathome, so my computer can be used all the time. Well then i desided to optimize the prefrences, so it could do work faster.

CPU = Intel Core I7
GPU = GeForce GTX285
RAM = 6 GB

Don`t know if you guys need more info. I also downloaded the "Lunatics' Unified". But my question is since i dont see any change in the time, in the BOINC Manager, do you use any other programs to see the tasks and CPU/GPU % and so on?
Is there anything else i should do to make tasks go faster and so on?

Thanks for any answers.

Regards
The Norwegian Viking

just added in the prefrence use GPU always

if you've installed the lunatics apps properly then you should be maxing out your performance. if you are worried about having enough work on your PC from seti just increase your cache to 4-5 days. I noticed that none of your CPU WU's appear to be using an optimized app. perhaps you installed them while BOINC was on and didnt restart boinc or installed them in the wrong place

Other projects dont typically have optimized apps to make their WU's go faster. Milkyway is best suited for GPU crunching. So you might have Seti and MW fighting for GPU time to crunch work. otherwise you seem to have a fairly firm grasp on how to make BOINC work correctly

What is "CPU WU's" ?

Quite simply, they are the work units you run on your CPU as opposed to those that run on your GPU. In SETI they show up on your BOINC Manager marked as 6.03 for multibeam or 505 for Astropulse work.

Your work for your GPU are showing as 6.09 right now but since you just optimized they will start showing up as 6.08s I believe. If you check them on the web based tasks page they will show up as SETI@home Enhanced
Anonymous platform (NVIDIA GPU)... Astropulse v505
Anonymous platform (CPU) or... SETI@home Enhanced
Anonymous platform (CPU). All the anonymous platform means is that you are running with the optimized package.

Cool!

And thank you very much guys, for good and fast answers :D

I just increased the work load with 10 day, got 19 new tasks... :D

I noticed that you chose LHC as one of your projects. While this is a worthy project, they rarely have work. I would add yet another project to keep the CPUs busy when SETI is out.

Before you ask, I see you've not only got new work by the ton but you are also showing a lot of errors. Don't worry about the errors, they are -6s which means the VLAR killer is doing it's job. VLARs are very hard on GPUs so most of us either use the VLARKiller or rescheduler. The killer sends them back to SETI as -6 errors the rescheduler sends them to your CPUs where they can be processed.

you can use a rescheduler on your WU's to move them from GPU crunching to CPU that way you aren't just tossing the WU's back to seti

How do I tell SETI to download extra work so that my system can continue to process when the servers are taken offline? Regards / JohnC

Adjust "Maintain enough work for an additional __ days" in your Computing preferences.

Did you check online and local preferences (BOINC manager menu Advanced/Preferences...)?

I have several projects, but I want to set up different quotes for them. When I increased setting in local app, every project got new tasks. I just want to set up them separately. What do you recommend?

Under your account page on each project you'll have a project specific preferences. Click on that and adjust your resource share. less for projects you want as back up/side projects. higher for main projects. I usually dont pay much attention to this as I just set my side projects to no new tasks when I want to crunch seti exclusively

Please be aware that these are long term resource shares. They tend to balance over the course of months, not hours.
