On the SETI@home status page, under Database status, one of the stats is "In progess". That number jumps all over the place - huge swings up and down in short periods of time.

What does it mean? Is it the number of WU's created (in existence) but not yet validated? If so, why does it change so much in such short periods of time? I would think that the steady-state through-put conditions would show much less fluctuation.

Thanks.

No, as far as I know, it's the amount of units being sent to people added up with the amount being done that are sent back to the server.

In Progress Wu's are the Wu's that have been sent out to be crunched by us.The Seti computers are waiting to get them back from us so it can validate them. So keep crunching and you will see this number change as work is sent out(making the number increase)and returned(making the number decrease).

And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer.
