Today is a kitty birthday day. Actually, several of them. My 3 kitty sisters have their birthday today. Tigger II, Bandit, and Purrball are now 11 years old. They are littermates. Squirrel is now a still pretty bouncy 17-1/2 year old. She will be having fresh kibble treats and maybe a pinch of catnip along with they young 'uns. Happy birthday to my beloved furry friends. I have a quick story to tell. A few weeks ago, my wife and I saw a what we thought was a stray kitty. Here is a picture I took some time later. Rose, my wife started feeding it, and we were both worried about it being hungry and out in the cold, so she started feeding it. It has spent many nights here, or under the neighbors chicken coop. As Rose has been feeding the kitty, it began to trust her, and finally would let her touch it. We were both figuring out what to do, while we already had a bunch of responsibilities. Tonight Rose was able to pet and hold the kitty, and we discovered it is pregnate. We had no other option, so we prepared the second bathroom, and brought the stray kitty in where she would be warm and safe. Here is the kitty, wich I think Rose wants to name Mia. Here is a wider view of the kitty in the shower. The poop box. The food and water bowl, but with canned food added twice a day. And a close up. Kitty is safe. There are no babies yet, but Mia goes to the Vet this evening after work for a full checkup. She has been living in our second bathroom, but if she is given a clean bill of health, we will integrate her in with the other 4 cats. She eats more than the other 4 cats combined. She is quite friendly, but hisses until she knows who is coming into her tiny bathroom world. Things have been a bit busy lately, and I think they are going to be even busier. We took Mia to the vet, and brought a poop sample, and they took some blood. She tested negative for leukemia, but here poop tested positive for lung worms. She will be on medication for two weeks, and the prognosis is excellent. We were very glad we kept her separated, or all the other cats would now be infected with lung worms. The vet said they were quite rare, but may have been from eating dirt. Normaly they are spread from eating infected poop or saliva. Now for the other news. She is not pregnant. In fact she has been spayed. The doctor clipped her belly, showing the old scar of a spaying. She just has a large belly, and weighs 10 pounds. Other than the worms, she is healthy. She has no microchip. So other than she has to live in the bathroom for the next two weeks, she should be fine. We got her a distemper shot, and since she has not been with us for 10 days, we can't give her the rabies shot until we take her back in a month for the distemper booster. I's been a long day!
