Yeah, she's a real smart kitty. She likes to sleep on my lap when the kids are asleep and then we both come at ease. It's the first time I'm that connected to an animal since Gonzo, my dog, passed away.

Isn't that a wonderful feeling?
Now you know why I am the kittyman. Sometimes when they look into your eyes, you can just feel how much they love you in return for the attention and love you give them.

Just a heads up to all of my fellow animal lovers....
My beloved kitty shelter has been overwhelmed.
This time, too many dogs.
The took in 435 some animals of all kinds last month....a very sad number indeed.
And they are looking for our assistance.
They have received a wonderful response from the local community, but they always need and deserve our help.

Lori and I are going to make a visit tomorrow with some gifts for them.

If you are so inclined, you could make a donation in memory of Oscar.

Their website is here....Fox Valley Humane Association

Greenville-based Fox Valley Humane Association expected to run out of dog food Friday

By Sharon Hanuszczak-Froberg
P-C assistant community news editor

GREENVILLE — The Fox Valley Humane Association will run out of dog food by Friday unless residents come forward with donations.

Executive director Deb Lewis said the animal shelter has had an insurgence in the number of surrendered pets and stray animals this month.

The facility has 500 pets and is down to half a shelf of dog food.

"In my 25 years at the shelter, I have never, ever had a shortage of dog food like I have had for the last year and a half," Lewis said. "We have an amazing community that has always done so much, so I'm hoping maybe they will help us feed these dogs."

Lewis said the poor economy is largely to blame for the influx in pet surrenders. The shelter, which doesn't charge a surrender fee, took in 435 stray and surrendered animals this month.

Owners surrender their pets for a variety of reasons, Lewis said.

Some can't afford to care for their pets after losing their jobs, while others are forced to move in with family members and can't take their pets along.

The shelter's campaign drive this summer didn't yield enough dog food and the facility's next food drive isn't until November.

The shelter has enough food for its feline population.

"We need to feed these dogs," Lewis said. "We can't let these dogs and the people of this community down."

Sherwood resident Susan Ferguson, who has supported the shelter with donations of kitty litter and pet food in the past, plans to drop off some dog food to make sure no pup goes hungry until the shelter's next food drive.

"Knowing that they're in need, we will do that," Ferguson said.
Additional Facts
How to help

Donations of dry and canned Purina or Iams dog food can be dropped off at the Fox Valley Humane Association, N115 Two Mile Road, in Greenville. Shelter hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday and Friday, noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Residents also can make monetary donations by calling 920-733-1717.

Seeya later, my friends.
Gotta go hook up with Lori and make the trip to the shelter to feed the doggins and kittens.

Will bring back pics.

Well...the deed is done.

Made the trip, snapped a few pics, proffered up my debit card.

Left with a tear in my eye, 'cuz I couldn't take the kitties home with me.
There were just soooooooo many. Fell in love with several straight off, who woulda been lifelong friends had I been able to take them in.

But the sadness I feel every time I visit there is offset just a little by knowing that I helped them along their road to their forever homes.

And it was wonderful to see today that the place was an absolute madhouse.
People going in and out with sacks of food from their trunks...and a few grranimals going home with them too. An endless stream of love going in and out.
Yes, there are a lot of beautiful people in this world who try to offset the things that the heartless ones do.

Although some have come to this due to people who have no other choice, and are undoubtedly heartbroken because of it. My heart goes out to them too.

My wallet's a little lighter today, but so is my heart.

Will post some pics tonight or tomorrow.

Meow meow for now..........

I can't believe we did this, but yesterday we adopted two more cats. They are 8 weeks old and former bottle-babies. I will try to snap and post some pictures soon on the kitty roll-call picture thread Mark recently started. White-Cat passed away this summer, so we were down a cat. Nothing like replacing one cat with two... Good grief, what were we thinking???!!!

As promised, here are a few pics of just a few of the hundreds of grranimals that need our help. Took these yesterday when I did my bit to support them.

And not just kitties, but many doggins as well....

So, now you know why my heart goes out so much and so often for these creatures who find themselves in cages through no fault of their own.
Again, if you can help, Fox Valley Humane Association needs us. My little kitty friends need us.

All are great pictures! We've adopted a stray kitty (or more aptly the other way around) that moved in on us because we feed her on a regular basis. We can't keep her inside, but we've fixed her up a house that's heated. I'm deathly allergic to cats and even if I wasn't, she hates me! At least she's got some taste.

She moved in about 3 years ago, and there isn't a bird, mouse, squirrel, or bat that's safe in our yard. We've been keeping up on her vaccines and even had her fixed to keep all (or some) of the males away.

Her name is Harley. My wife named her after a character in a book that seemed to fit her. I'll try to get close enough to get a picture that I can share.
