A little story I don't think I relayed during my eye surgeries and such........

One night Lori and I came home late on a weekend night after a shopping expedition........(Lori loves shopping....I don't really......)

We pulled into the driveway and she saw something on her front porch. 'What is that?'

It turned out to be a kitty.

There were some very bad storms that night....and kitty was obviously very frightened. Kept meowing and meowing......

Ran off, but after a couple of hours of coaxing, he finally came up and took some proffered food. And so we coaxed him into the garage, where he took up residence for a few days, hiding most of the time, but coming out once his hunger and courage took hold.

Tried on the local want ads and craigslist to find his home, but to no avail. He MUST have belonged to somebody......he was neutered, well kept, could not have been in the wild for very long.

Seems now, weeks later, that somebody must have dumped him in the countryside.........so sad.

BUT!!!

We have found him a new loving home....I fell soo much in love with the little guy that I would have taken him if all else failed.

He was sooooooooooo scared that night, but there were moments that he forgot how scared he was and snuggled right up to you. He is very happy now in his new home.

Sounds like You've earned another Gold Star.

It's the ones you can't lay credit to, or flash about that sometimes mean the most.

I fell so in love with that kitty in 24 hours that I will always be concerned for him. Once he got out of his 'scaredy cat' posture, he just wanted to be held and loved sooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

Never had a word of him being lost.......some SOB tossed him out into the wild that night. No wonder he was so scared.

You can't believe how much he was meowing.....and didn't know where to go.

I am so happy that he is homed now. Hope to see him again.

I guess God guided kitty to the right front porch that night.

Great to hear a "good news" story Mark. The wee Calico that has adopted us is snoozing on a pile of bubble wrap in my study at the moment. She drops round to us for a couple of hours every evening. I guess she just knows where she is loved (and spoiled rotten) : ))

Best wishes

Tom

Happy to hear lost or dumped kitty has a new home. We think our Spawnie was either lost or dumped in our neighborhood as well. He too was neutered and clearly well socialized. We are glad he found us. He is a great cat! There is always room for one more kitty, isn't there...

Great name Julie and then her nickname could be just Happy.

Just a heads up to all of my fellow animal lovers....
My beloved kitty shelter has been overwhelmed.
This time, too many dogs.
The took in 435 some animals of all kinds last month....a very sad number indeed.
And they are looking for our assistance.
They have received a wonderful response from the local community, but they always need and deserve our help.

Lori and I are going to make a visit tomorrow with some gifts for them.

If you are so inclined, you could make a donation in memory of Oscar.

Their website is here....Fox Valley Humane Association

Greenville-based Fox Valley Humane Association expected to run out of dog food Friday

By Sharon Hanuszczak-Froberg
P-C assistant community news editor

GREENVILLE — The Fox Valley Humane Association will run out of dog food by Friday unless residents come forward with donations.

Executive director Deb Lewis said the animal shelter has had an insurgence in the number of surrendered pets and stray animals this month.

The facility has 500 pets and is down to half a shelf of dog food.

"In my 25 years at the shelter, I have never, ever had a shortage of dog food like I have had for the last year and a half," Lewis said. "We have an amazing community that has always done so much, so I'm hoping maybe they will help us feed these dogs."

Lewis said the poor economy is largely to blame for the influx in pet surrenders. The shelter, which doesn't charge a surrender fee, took in 435 stray and surrendered animals this month.

Owners surrender their pets for a variety of reasons, Lewis said.

Some can't afford to care for their pets after losing their jobs, while others are forced to move in with family members and can't take their pets along.

The shelter's campaign drive this summer didn't yield enough dog food and the facility's next food drive isn't until November.

The shelter has enough food for its feline population.

"We need to feed these dogs," Lewis said. "We can't let these dogs and the people of this community down."

Sherwood resident Susan Ferguson, who has supported the shelter with donations of kitty litter and pet food in the past, plans to drop off some dog food to make sure no pup goes hungry until the shelter's next food drive.

"Knowing that they're in need, we will do that," Ferguson said.
Additional Facts
How to help
