Jeff........
Are you Matt in sheep's clothing? LOL..

Naw, I'm Matt and Jeff in Jeff's clothing. Eric is back so at least I'm no longer Matt and Eric and Jeff in Jeff's clothing! That was getting to be confusing. :-)

as long as you don't have any females at the lab, you guys are all set on the clothes side of things

I think that is the plot of Victor Victoria!!!

Keep up the good work! My machines are crunching away with the last bits of SETI and Milkyway which is also down. (Thank goodness I still have Einstein for the rest of the weekend.)

My BOINC could UL all results.
But, report not possible.

Cricket graph show 30 Mbits/sec UL and 10 Mbits/sec DL.
So maybe some members could reach the scheduler and can DL new WUs?

Is there any more word on whether or not we should leave our flops counts in on the anonymous platforms? Will they cause much problem when they are done server side?

What kind of bad management continues at SETI. After a three day down time mid weekno one checks to see if the servers will allow access? all I want to do is report results. Is Boinc the problem as it has been in the past? What further problems will pop up after the next three day down period. I am getting to the point of turning my computer off rather that wasting time computing for SETI.

More likely some hosts downloading WUs, which they got assigned before the outage but didn't download before the servers gone offline + overhead from uploads.

Hey David Moritz: why dont you just go ahead and shutdown your computer(s)? I will happily wait to download the next WUs to see if I can be the first to find ET!

BTW: Its not bad management - its Gremlins from the Kremlin! As any IT Pro will tell you - they appear when & where you least expect them.

Why dont you give the SETI management a break, huh?

Please just press detach. Your problems will be over.

Seti has nothing to do with this outage. It is a third party fault.

David,

Had you read what Jeff posted, and I quote:
We have lost connectivity somewhere between our two routers. One of these routers is located at the Space Sciences Lab and the other at the Peering And Internet eXchange (PAIX) in Palo Alto. Until we get this problem cleared up we cannot distribute new work.

You would see that there is a problem between the Space Sciences Lab router, and the other somewhere in Palo Alto. Quite a few miles between these 2 locations.

People, cool down.. relax..

The prob will be discovered and solved soon.

If the prob is outside of the Berkeley university area, we need to wait that someone of the ISP company will look to the prob.

Worst case - the service employees of the ISP company are already in the weekend and the prob will be solved earliest at Monday.

BTW. If you don't have enough WUs on your PC for to bridge planned and unplanned server outages, why you didn't increased your WU cache in your computing preferences?

It aint bad management nor is it stupidity - just bad attitudes toward folks that are doing a helluva good job given the resources at their disposal. it's okay IMHO to pull the plug - there might be more work for my piddling little box which never gets more than 40 at a time. Why not try running BETA and contribute to the development of the system. It would be a lot more productive that griping about the problems and help with solutions. I'd run beta myself but my little rig is lucky to pull itself out of it's own tire tracks.

After the many outages lately, and I don't mean anything negative, I simply did what was just suggested and raised my work load to the max in preperation for the SETI down times. If you still are worried you will run out of WU's slow down the CPU usage and thus reduce power consumption as well. Then speed it back up again when things are running smoothly.

I have to believe these guys are doing all they can on a shoestring budget. That being said have they thought about forming some sort of highly qualified volunteer group that live close by and can help out in house when needed? I know that letting just anyone touch the equipment or software is like letting the fox into the hen house. Seems a lot of in-house problems have been an issue lately and you need some help and rest. You guys are working too hard to put up with the few that abuse this board to vent without knowing the dedication Matt and the others have for this project.
