Interesting story and more interesting are the photos. I have been trying to figure this out myself...but wow. Thought it would be interesting to share.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1293395/Chinese-airport-closed-UFO-spotted-city.html

A Chinese airport was closed after this mysterious object was spotted in the sky.

Arcing over Zhejiang's provincial capital Hangzhou, the UFO appeared to glow with an eerie white light and left a bright trail in its wake.

Xiaoshan Airport was closed after the UFO was detected at around 9 pm and dozens of flights had to be diverted.

*EDIT NOTE*: Just a bit of fun: Coincides with the 63rd anniversary of the Roswell Incident :P

Where did it land? What did the jets that were scrambled see. Was it on radar, Was there a sonic boom. What papers was it recorded in

Not sure on all those accounts. There is not much out there and most of the stories that turned up on Google News say roughly the same thing this one did.

This one says its debris from a US ICBM http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/World/China/UFO-in-China-has-military-connection-Official/articleshow/6146544.cms

UPDATE: China back tracks on 'military' theory for UFO that closed airport:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5572398/china_reverses_itself_on_ufo_that_disrupted.html?cat=15

China Daily, the state-run newspaper, citing an unnamed source, reported that the Chinese government determined that the UFO had military connections and was planning to make an official statement later in the day. Daily Finance noted that Chinese airline stocks rallied in the wake of the Xiaoshan Airport UFO sighting, with 3.9% to 5.6% gains.

By Saturday, China Daily's reports indicated a Chinese government about-face, with the Civil Aviation Administration denying that any conclusion had yet been drawn as to the identity of Thursday's UFO near Xiaoshan Airport.

MY NOTE: This story keeps getting more and more interesting. The alleged missile theory was for an alleged UFO sighting on June 30th. Also...has anyone ever heard of any object or alleged UFO closing a major airport before? Abovetopsecret has some good threads going about this. Here is a link to one of them: [NEW PICS!] China airport UFO was no helicopter!! There is a good post on Page 4 of that thread comparing two images. One from the sighting, and a painting in 1710. I cannot resize the images so apologies ahead of time for them being so big. I am trying to track down whether or not the object is shining down the lights onto the city or if lights are being shined at it. What do you think?

Cool story.

Keep us updated about any statements from the airport authority or the Chinese government.

Speculation amongst people at Above Top Secret say its an "over exposed" Helicopter. Here is the thread, but in the last few hours, the helicopter theory seems to have died. This is a long thread (12 pages at time of this post), but lots of good discussion if you like a good read:

I would go with top photo by Jason: Long exposure on helicoptor. Lower photo: Possibly some type of a missle (I would guess test if nothing was reported blown up/crashed)

In a later post showing a "saucer" shape above some ancient drawing.. It seems
quite apparent it is a projection, either intentionally or accidently against the low cloud cover seen in the photo. I have seen similar photos of a projection that "occured" near a large spinning tower next to a pond, where the bright lights underneath the tower were reflected up against the cloud cover.

Honestly.. about as interesting as the "flying cigar" taken when someone put a cigar on their car windshield and took a picture.

Oh and a stray missle... would shut down an airport. interesting two obviously unrelated photos appear... since the atmospheric conditions are not even similar.

I do believe its something man made. A UFO sure, but just what it means...unidentified...I don't like to get it confused with an alien spaceship because it's not and if there are such thing, which I believe there are, then I doubt they would pick a n airport to fly over. However that said, it also shows people are watching.

I agree on the pictures being two entirely different things. I think the comet like object can be much related to all the other spiral and comet like objects that have appeared all over the world in recent months:

Spirals in Norway

Spooky!!!!

But funny, The Falcon 9 rocket took off from Florida just a short time before people in Australia saw the spiral in the sky.

Australian news coverage; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pgaw6qFbdk

Falcon 9 flight highlights; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VE0YJKQ-8g

Not so spooky any more. Rockets and their first stages continue to burn for a while and they can spiral.

**From my post to the long thread at 'Above Top Secret':**

New photo? The most recent news story has published a photo that I have not yet seen. Though I could be wrong (correct me if I am). Though the paper reporting it this time is not what we would call entirely reliable in terms of reporting, but the picture is interesting.

Snip bit: UFO SCARE AS FLYING SAUCER SPARKS PANIC IN SKIES - The object, which looked like a flying saucer, hovered above an airport for several minutes before beaming down a piercing shaft of light.

The airport was closed and passenger planes were diverted as X Files-style agents were drafted in to investigate.

Witnesses reported strange balls of light and a bus driver said he saw a glowing object in the sky at around 9pm on Wednesday.

He said: “It suddenly ran westwards fast, like it was escaping from something.”

Same thing.. long exposure on a helecopter.. with landing or spotlight turned on. Notice the unusual brightness of the buildings not just where the light is hitting? Long exposure time. Story and that photo do not match. Did not even require photoshop.

Top picture looks,to me,like something re-entering the atmosphere and breaking up as a result maybe space junk or a small meteor.Bottom one is a classic comet but as there is no date who knows which one.

I was thinking that possibly a defective missile/rocket launch on the first one. It looks like the thing has windows and a cockpit.

the second looks like a decent photoshop of a comet over a city.

The object would have crashed and the site could easily be determined. So--what did they find??

So far as I know nothing landed. The only known missile launch was from North Vandenberg Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in the US. That was an ICBM test. SOmething tells me if that missile were to have landed in China, they would be ticked off and condemned it immediately (just a guess).

RE the comet looking thing...that is puzzling. If the dates are correct (based on MSM reporting) then there is no known comet that came close enough to earth in the past month that I know of. Beautiful video and picture though nonetheless.

Cool video, but it looked very natural to me. Real alien ships zip suddenly and don't leave big trails.
