Message 1012099 - Posted: 5 Jul 2010, 12:28:04 UTC - in response to Message 1012091.

I think we might be seeing the 'standard setup' machines which got synchronised by the extended outage.
They were dry, reported, got work and now keep reporting every ~4.5h. They get new work, maxing out the bandwidth, depleting ready to send and that causes the splitters to fire up and refill.

the 40M background we see is most likely forum readers on higher caches, where the 20 cap pushes them into one by one - spreading more evenly.

Well, it's viable indeed, BUT AFAIK almost all back off intervals in BOINC are randomized around some mean time. Moreover, "crowd" hosts have definitely different performance.

I don't think it's back-off, I think it's some internal 'report and fetch work every 4.5h' on the standard setup, that we don't see, because we don't run standard.

That is, extended outage can be perfect synchronization event indeed, but after it synching should be lost. That is, in oscillations we should see spike blurring, but it re-creates its form and length pretty fine ~10 (or more?) iterations already. In "initial sync event" theory I don't understand why blurring absent...

Yes, I've been wondering as well why we don't see damping.

@ Sten-Arne 'Alte Unke' ;)

@ Sten-Arne 'Alte Unke' ;)

I can buy Alte, but Unke? Isn't that a little bit over the top eh? LOL

I am sorry, I should have explained straight away :)

Unke is a german species of toad. 'unken' the verb is to predict (mild) catastrophies, usually quite vague, therefore quite often creating self-fullfilling prophesies.

Calling somebody 'Alte Unke' means that he/she keeps predicting misfortune and has an uncanny knack of being right about it.

Also used retrospectively towards the person who said it was all going to go wrong. English similar probably 'you jinxed it'.

LoL, and just after such nice theory was written my host recived AP task :)
It's not resend, fresh new task with replication of 2, recived at bandwidth low plato time... That is, AP work fetch not blocked... theory crashed ;D

It's probably because the number of Astropulse tasks the Schedular has in Normal operation is quite low, and takes quite a few requests to get any,
but every 4 hours the mix changes for a little while,

I just checked my error page, and it seems I have a whole bunch that say Client Detached dated today. I didn't detach, and am still crunching some 34 remaining VLAR's on the CPU. Strange...

Uuh! You lost about ~1,200 GPU Workunits Today on 6:13:32 UTC. That's heavy.

How is this going? Any Idea? Your Rig crashed maybe?

I have no idea. Everything seems to be working fine. I didn't even know I had those tasks. They weren't showing up in BOINC. Perhaps it was from a week ago, when I was installing a Lunatics build and forgot an underscore. All my GPU units vanished. Oops! Maybe now they are just showing up. The strange thing is that a lot of the units are from the CPU as well. I don't even have a guess on that one. Maybe I just dumped a bunch of ghosts??

The only thing I can see for messages is that I have more than the alotted 20, so I can't download. I'm beginning to think I my have to do a real detach to clear things out before the gates fly open.

Maybe those detached Workunits are really Ghosts because your
GPU Quota isn't affected. Currently 450.

Edit:
I'm not sure if detaching resets Quota...

There's another complaint about that : Client detached?

Does a client detach count as an error that kills your quota?

If it's just removing ghosts it's probably more cosmetics. What happens if you try to report a WU that was marked as detached?

The cap on downloads was just lifted, and the servers are gonna get pounded steady as long as they can stay online.
HTTP errors are not uncommon when the servers are running flat out.
Just let it keep retrying and it will download eventually.
