Umm, did someone forget to return Beta to on-line status? Still down as of 09:13 Berkeley time... (I'm in the same time zone...)

It wouldn't be the first time someone forgot to turn on Beta, but I'm guessing they left it off on purpose until Seti main has stabilized. They do share a lot of the same hardware as well as the bandwidth. It would make sense to keep resource free to handle the crunch. Beta testers are usually a lot more forgiving.

If everyone is more productive with a few days of downtime, then it's definitely a win. I know all of you are part time with SETI. It's important to get the most accomplished those few hours per week.

I'm very curious what the server stats and cricket network graphs will look like over the weekend, now that the floodgates are open. Hopefully, the status on Tuesday morning will give you some clues about the new nominal performance (with 43% downtime per week). I'm sure someone in the NC forum will analyze this for you by Tuesday. :)

I as well have only two days of work available.

Fri Jul 2 14:23:40 2010 SETI@home Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Fri Jul 2 14:23:40 2010 SETI@home Message from server: No work sent
Fri Jul 2 14:23:40 2010 SETI@home Message from server: This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress

This is the message sent on reboot.

So my question is: If this is going to be the case, that only two days of tasks can be
downloaded, then there will be less work done, as the computer serving SETI will have
days where there is no work available, due to a limit set by the server as copied above.

This especially so, when there are three days or more of SETI server shut down.

I understand the need for more maintenance time (with a later deadline to do the work).

But, if work available limits disables SETI work for three days a week, there will be far less
work done for the project. I do believe the object is not to lessen the work done for SETI,
but rather, to ease the workload deadline for the Berkley staff (Matt, Jeff et al).

So limiting the work available for download to each SETI client detracts from the overall
efficiency for the SETI project, thus negating some of the effect of longer server shutdown
for maintenance.

I do appreciate the work done at Berkley by Matt, Jeff et al.

Just a guess, but I would say they have limited the the number of jobs sent to each machine to make the startup much smoother. Everyone gets a few workunits and the download server and bandwidth isn't hammered.

Hopefully the limit can be raised later in the day, or tomorrow and let everyone's caches fill up again.

I hope you are right Ianab, I got twenty tasks and as I finish one it sends me another then starts on the reached task limit message again. I have noticed the pendings are falling fairly quickly, maybe they are just giving the servers a break as they handle the mess we are sending them.

One possiblity would be to decide each week how long the work *should* take before the servers come back up. Post an estimate on the front page Monday afternoon, and leave it posted during the outage. That way if there is nothing major pending, it can be a short outage, but if there is lots of work stacked up you can take a 2 or 3 days. Just tr to get it back up and running sometime on Friday...

You'll see that it's been going up and down last couple of days. I was able to get work last night.

Hallo everybody

Thank for upgrade soft – I hope that this changes will fit to the bigger requests for WU but...

I have few waiting CPU units (for max 2 days with my processor) and none units for GPU processor and when I trying to download some for my two gpu 285 cards I have message: „This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress”.

There's a thread posted on the front page about the "limit"...
