Rgr. Geek.com had refurb Seagate 750GB's for $45 in SATA format which I understood as the previous standard. I can hold for updated info before I go hunting. Glad to see you had such a good turnout on the server. Rich |

Rgr. LOL....... A refurb drive usually means somebody whacked the installation........ Thanks for the help. Hope they match the new server. A stronger, faster, more reliable Seti. Like my new bionic eyes.....LOL. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Haven't bought anything yet. If the new server needs SCSI or something larger than 750GB, I just need to know what it is and I will see what I can do. |

Too late to donate for the server, but I decided that SETI needed the money more than me adding a GTS450 to one of my machines. Might help with the new memory sticks or somethingelse. Wish it could be more. Thank you for your gift to the SETI@home. We received your gift of $125.00 via Visa on 10/07/2010. Your confirmation number is 63391. |

Clifton, thanks for that. This is from a post by Eric over in the tech news forum... Dan has contacted HP and Sun to see if they can give us a deep discount on a machine that could replace mork, hopefully deep enough that we can purchase it on what's remaining from the donations made in the Number Crunching threads. So, maybe you're just early for the new, new server donation drive. :-) PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

Thank you, Clifton and Byron...... Everything helps. Certainly now more than ever. The kitties are still awaiting word on what it's gonna take to make things right again. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

The kitties are still awaiting word on what it's gonna take to make things right again. At this point, I'm really wondering if they shouldn't just shut down (except the forums) until Oscar arrives. **In no way do I mean this to be negative** but the constant ups/downs can't be healthy for the system. Why not take 2 weeks-keep the systems off until Oscar arrives. Put it up and go for it. Just an idea. |

From what little I understand.. they have more problems at the moment than Oscar can solve. Still waiting on the lab to figure out how deep the rabbit hole goes. Janice |

If 5000 participants each donated $100 the project would have enough money to really consider possible expansion rather than just minimal maintenance. Or 50000 participants (less than a third of active participants) donating the minimum $10 would do the same. Could we get some kind of counter on the site showing how many people have donated so far, and how far along they are to a certain goal? I'm sure as we get closer to meeting the goal, more people would be inspired/willing to donate (perhaps due to some sense of competition... try to be the one to push it past the goal line). Right now it's like we're donating blind, no idea where the money is going, how much they have, how much they need, etc. |

If 5000 participants each donated $100 the project would have enough money to really consider possible expansion rather than just minimal maintenance. Or 50000 participants (less than a third of active participants) donating the minimum $10 would do the same. The SETI@home Donation History Since 1 Oct 2008 page has good information, and the SETI@home Budget - Fall 2008 shows how they planned to spend the amount they were asking users to contribute. So they asked for $548200.00 for one year and have gotten $224420.82 in the two years since. You can go down the list of items on the budget and figure out what has been dropped or deferred. I'll note that some hardware donations by Intel and Overland Storage should also be considered. Joe |

Maybe somebody can explain why these sentences "SETI@home is a nonprofit educational and research organization that relies heavily on donations to continue its work. We are deeply grateful to all the individuals and organizations that have donated to SETI@home." are buried on the Sponsor page and not shown prominently on the Home page. To me a bit more about donating $10.00 or more to the project on the Home page where new crunchers could see it might help with increasing donations. |
