Good morning. Oh.......yeah. And I think they need a new 'reboot' button too. ____________ ****** "Ask not, what your kitty can do for you. Ask what you can do for your kitty." As it is kitten, so shall it be done.

Good morning. AFAICT the plan now is instead of having a separate NTPCkr server, Thumper is to be replaced with a new server which will maintain the S@H science database and have sufficient processing and memory to do NTPCkr duties during the 3 day outages. Thumper is a Sun Fire X4500 with a full set of 48 drives, IIRC 500 GB drives yielding total raw storage of 24 TB. We have basically only Matt's initial posts in the Technical News threads Catchup and Hocket to go on, but it does seem likely they'd want the new server to have a disk array sufficient to handle the database both now and as it continues to grow. Rgr. LOL....... A refurb drive usually means somebody whacked the installation........ Thanks for the help. Hope they match the new server. A stronger, faster, more reliable Seti. Like my new bionic eyes.....LOL. ____________ ****** "Ask not, what your kitty can do for you. Ask what you can do for your kitty." As it is kitten, so shall it be done.

Haven't bought anything yet. If the new server needs SCSI or something larger than 750GB, I just need to know what it is and I will see what I can do.

Too late to donate for the server, but I decided that SETI needed the money more than me adding a GTS450 to one of my machines. Might help with the new memory sticks or somethingelse. Wish it could be more.

Clifton, thanks for that. This is from a post by Eric over in the tech news forum... Dan has contacted HP and Sun to see if they can give us a deep discount on a machine that could replace mork, hopefully deep enough that we can purchase it on what's remaining from the donations made in the Number Crunching threads. So, maybe you're just early for the new, new server donation drive. :-) ____________ PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC

The kitties are still awaiting word on what it's gonna take to make things right again. At this point, I'm really wondering if they shouldn't just shut down (except the forums) until Oscar arrives. **In no way do I mean this to be negative** but the constant ups/downs can't be healthy for the system. Why not take 2 weeks-keep the systems off until Oscar arrives. Put it up and go for it. Just an idea. ____________
