Give me a BREAK. You've crunched for six days, you've posted 59 times and have said nothing. Your cute jpegs arn't helping... Could you please go away for awhile?

*Ack*.

If this should be in any way appreciated I could add some facts on Guido's engagement on "woooooohaaaahhh!!! credits for live, credits for p***-enl***" and similar thoughts, just today I think we're fed up.

Kind regards

Mike

Um, if you need a break maybe you're the one who needs to go away for a while - and take that break you so desperately want.

Personally, I think Guido's cute jpegs ARE helping. They help a whole lot at keeping it all in perspective, so that people don't snap from all the Berkeley problems. Humor goes a long way sometimes - maybe you should try it.

I don't minde Guido's silly postings and even sillier images. They help lighten the mood around here. One thing I would ask of him, though: Please shorten your nickname, Guido. The long one you use now screws up the forum formatting.

Personally, I don't. The website is slow enough without having to wait for all the damn images to transfer from off-site. If he wants to post his silly little jpegs, fine. Just post them as a LINK not as an embedded image. Think about how this affects dial-up users.

If I were berkeley, I'd remove all HTML support from the forums.

People who are that concerned about the pictures can use settings in their software to disable them. I would think a dial-up user who is adversely effected by such images would have already done that.

In Firefox, you can choose to disable all images from web pages, or you can allow only images that come from the originating site. Choosing the latter immediately turns off all of Guido's (and everyone elses) embedded images.

If YOU don't like the way it works by default, YOU have the ability to change how YOU interact with it without forcing others to accept as the default only the way YOU want to use it. Why don't YOU disable the pictures since you don't want to see them - and let those of us who do want to see them continue to do so?

Darren, feel free to point out where the forum "control panel" is because I still can't find anywhere to disable sigs and images.

And I'm NOT disabling images from my entire browser just because Guido likes to paste a lot of innappropriate images all over the place.

If I could do it on a site-by-site basis then yes, I'd block images on this site, but I can't.

The forum works one way - it provides all the info and then you pick and choose with your browser settings the parts you want. Depending upon what browser you're using, how you pick and choose is done differently. If you are using Firefox and you don't wan't to disable embedded offsite images globally, then just create a separate profile for using with this forum. Then whenever you open this forum, open it in that profile and the images are disabled. Whenever you open other sites where you want the embedded offsite images, open them with your default profile and you get the pictures there.

As for the "Guido likes to paste a lot of innappropriate images all over the place" comment - I don't fully agree with that conclusion. Most of Guido's images are simply conveying a message using a picture instead of words. There is a whole different thread right now about people not using English on these boards and people not being able to understand what they're saying. Well, Guido's pictures get past all that. EVERYONE can understand the meaning of the picture further back in this thread - no matter what language they speak. How does Guido's decision to make his comment using a picture instead of words make it "inappropriate"? If he had used words and said "f... you" instead of posting a picture that conveys (in a much more humorous and respectable way) the same message, would that have made it "appropriate" somehow?

Darren, most "commercial" forums have options that users can set to ignore images/sigs on the forum, that's what I was referring to.

But with a name change, and the reduced forum format buggering I don't mind guido. Yes it hurts my 56k but it was the name that was annoying me with all the underscores ;)

Innapropriate, well I guess they do generally get to the point.

Thank you, 'Guido', for your nickname change. The new one does not mess up the forum formatting.

Be well, and have a nice day!
