I think that CUDA do not work with BOINC and SETI. I make calculations for Milky Way too and I have one task specialy for CUDA (cuda23) and calculation is much more faster than CPU. How can I calculate SETI with CUDA? I have set Activity/Allways use GPU.

Hi Jiri,
Right now SETI is having server problems. The guys have just started to work and it should be fixed sometime today. That said, as soon as work starts to flow again you should be able to download and begin working on both CPU and GPU tasks. You don't need to do anything but be patient, it should take care of itself as soon as it is able.

Dear Perryjay,

thank you for fast answer. I know about problem, but yesterday I have calculated 4 task only with CPU. I am new man in SETI project....
I will wait for new tasks and come with new questions... I am supprised with GPU power, it can calculate 3 tasks during only 10% of 2 tasks on CPU.
I hope that SETI will use my GPU....

you have an Nvidia 260. Seti will definitely work on that GPU. Please be patient, THe Gurus are working on a few bugs in the servers. With any luck they'll have it solved quickly(sometime today or tomorrow)

Hi all,

Having problems now with windows 7. Downloaded Boinc and it installed but when I wanted to attach a project and am requested the email and password it tells me to check them. I logged on repeatedly with the same password and email. I cannot figure out what the heck is happening.

...but when I wanted to attach a project...

With "a project" you mean SETI, don't you? ;-) Most other projects should work.

SETI is down from Tuesday to Thursday, see the homepage news:
New Outage Schedule
Starting next week our servers will be turned off for several days a week - initially, Tuesday through Thursday. This will allow us to devote more time to scientific development.

Which project(s)?

You do need to have a separate account at each project as each project is independent.

more appropriately, You need to create an account for each Project you join. Its easier to create the account then get boinc to add the project than adding the project and then dealing with your account on the project

Credits are given, when you (& your wingmen*), turn in a validated Work Unit (WU).
All tasks (WU's) are computed by atleast 2 hosts and results are being compaired.
When they 'match', this is called a Cannonical Result, you will get Credit.

Each task requires a certain amount of Floating Point MIPS (Whetstone)
This 'amount' is translated to Cobblestones, named after Jef Cobb, one of the scientist @ SETI@Home in Berkeley.

* Wingmen: another cruncher which is doing the same WU and the results should match, if not, it is send to a 3rd host.(Eventually a 4th, which doesn't happen often at SETI Main).

Thankyou for that detailed explanation !

So its basically going to be impossble for me to ever earn credits on my own
and therefore gain access to Edit my profile.

Why should it be impossible for you? You'll just have to return the currently running tasks without computing error, and soon you'll be able to post on the message boards and edit your profile.

May be I am a nube, but tell me please... As I see nobody has any problems installing Seti on Windows 7 (only I have 32, not 64). But I try to install and nothing happens - "Error reading setup initialization file". What is this? And forgive me for postinig in this theme.

This means the setup file is corrupted (not fully downloaded)

Download again and check you have:

boinc_6.10.58_windows_intelx86.exe

Size: 6.88 MB (7,216,544 bytes)

md5 checksum:
d37f5bca393692d2a9370a107f22c5ae *boinc_6.10.58_windows_intelx86.exe

(You can use e.g. Total Commander to verify the md5 checksum)
