Âres posted a problem and the solution he found in the forum of SETI.Germany and asked me to supply it to this forum - I'll try :

The client failed to download new work units, he got "md5 sum error" all the time.

He is using the virus scanner "nod32" (www.nod32.com), the scanner scans all web traffic too (they call it IMON Scanner).

Scanning the downloads of BOINC, the scanner caused so much lag that BOINC couldn't complete the downloads successfully anymore.

After excluding boinc*.exe from those download scans, the downloads do not cause errors anymore, the problem is completely solved.

This might happen with other scanners too that allow to scan web traffic.

edit : something not right yet - the problem is not the lag but the scanner itself is a piece of crap. It appends its own checksum to the files (Âres told me).
