Same result here as well. Nothing showing on the screen for a number of days now. All in all, SETI has been pretty unreliable for quite some time. Thinking of moving all my cycles to Rosetta for a while.

this is probably one of many reasons why the servers are down for now.

Message 1018377 - Posted: 22 Jul 2010, 7:42:53 UTC - in response to Message 1004825.

I'm also unable to have BOINC run SETI.
BOINC gives message of trying to connect to client, and only option is to shut it down, I have around 30 work units most due from the 2nd of August, and are 6~10 Hours each, my dual core Laptop is not capable of getting much more output.
Can I tell BOINC (and how)to run the units connected to local host only, ie give SETI Network time to recover?
I have just updated to ver...58 and no change to trying to connect to the client.
I have only ever run SETI and am not interested in anything else for now.
I look forward to some help at this hopefully temp not much longer problem.

If BOINC Manager (= boincmgr.exe) tells you
that it is trying to connect to client (= boinc.exe) but can't
this have nothing to do with SETI servers - it is local problem (in your computer)

It is most likely caused by Firewall blocking the communication
between the two programs (boincmgr.exe & boinc.exe).

What Firewall do you use?
When this problem started?
What (security, Antivirus) programs did you install (recently)?

If nothing shows in the list of tasks and the messages, thin it is the communications between the manager and the daemon (both parts of the BOINC client on your computer).

The manager talks to the daemon on port 31416, so you have to allow the daemon (BOINC.exe) to act as a server on port 31416. You also have to allow the BOINC manager (BOIND_mgr.exe3) to access port 31416. This can be restricted to the local machine for the manager to control just the local machine, or it can be restricted to the LAN for a single manager to control all of the machines on a LAN. You should also allow the command line BOINC_CLI.exe and the screen saver (BOINC.scr) to access the same port. If you are using a third party managr such as BOINC Tasks, BOINC.Net, or BOINC View, you need to allow these access outbound on port 31416 as well.

It is also possible that some other program is using port 31416 as that port is used by some malware to phone home.

I think it's boinccmd.exe for the Command Line Interface ;-)
