Here's a new one. Check out your SETI Project Preferences page. I'm getting:

Notice: Constant MAX_CPU_DESC already defined in /disks/ptolemy/c/home/boincadm/projects/sah/html/seti_boinc_html/project_specific_prefs.inc on line 104
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$background in /disks/ptolemy/c/home/boincadm/projects/sah/html/seti_boinc_html/project_specific_prefs.inc on line 416
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$user_logo in /disks/ptolemy/c/home/boincadm/projects/sah/html/seti_boinc_html/project_specific_prefs.inc on line 421

I get the $background and $user_logo warnings, but nothing about MAX_CPU_DESC.

This looks like what I would expect to see if I had just changed some code, and was trying it out to see if it works. Or if a temporary patch was put in to handle a big problem, without worrying about some little problems.

Matt did mention Jeff was actively working on back-end BOINC stuff. Hopefully, he's in control of the situation. Check the latest Tech News.

Question:
If I do a Detach and Reatach to S@H will I loose all the Statistics that are shown in Boinc Manager.
If I will is there any way to save the file and reintigrate it after the reatach?

statistics_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml holds all the info. So make a copy of these files.
So it should be possible to copy or insert this info again.

I'd prefer not to detach Myself as I use an optimized app_info setup here, Plus I am getting work once a day I think, My quota is at 175 WU's a day and rising. As to reintegrating, That I don't know about.

Something peculiar going on since things came back up after the latest outage.

I've started getting the messages mentioned in other threads,
17/06/2010 15:40:31 SETI@home Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home Enhanced.

I'm running an optimised application, CPU only. But after a few attempts work does download OK.

The really odd thing is the estimated run times for work recently downloaded. Existing work the estimates are from 33min to 2hrs 10min, all new work downloaded the estimates are from 5min to 17min.

Decided to suspend my existing tasks, and see what happened when crunching the newly allocated tasks. Time to completion estimate rising rapidly.

Given the length of the last outage, it was always going to take a while for things to settle down, but with with completion times underestimated by a factor of 6 or so it's going to result in a very prolonged period of heavy traffic. Not to mention a few missed deadlines along the way for some people.

Prepare for the uproar!

EDIT- after running a few of the recently downloaded WUs i resumed the previously downloaded ones. Time to completion is way over the top, so everything's running in High Priority mode for now.

I'll confirm this; last night a slew of 3 minute jobs were downloaded. However, this morning they have become 22 hour jobs. Like fairydust got caught in my PC fan or something.

The most disturbing problems I have is with the state file.
The Seti@home project name gets changed to the beta project. After that a lot of error messages, grrrrrr.

This means manually adjusting the state file.

And a user logout and login is required otherwise a reconnect to the client is not working.

After that everything looks back to normal.

One thing about a kerfuffle like this, it certainly gets the boards buzzing. This is the busiest they've been since the introduction of CUDA

It also demonstrates that there is a genuine interest in the project and it's operation. It's a shame we are regarded and treated as passive lab rats by some quarters.

I am sure that by analyzing our posts, situations can be understood and addressed. So for me, if being a lab rat helps cure the disease, then I'm OK with that. I write code myself for a living, and many times I have been forced to deploy updates to production in order to keep product shipping, that needed further updates to correct unforseen issues. I automated an entire department via database design, automated testing, and report generation, and the system has to constantly change in order to accommodate new products or tests. Many times the demanded changes have to be deployed in a hap hazard manner, and cleaned up once the pressure is off. It is not optimal, but nescessary.
