My GPU (GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB) has been doing a great job crunching data for the past year, but then suddenly stopped working: 6/3/2010 10:08:48 PM||NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 8600 GTS (driver version 19745, CUDA version 3000, compute capability 1.1, 242MB, 93 GFLOPS peak) 6/3/2010 11:34:13 PM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 6/3/2010 11:34:13 PM|SETI@home|Requesting new tasks for GPU 6/3/2010 11:34:14 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 6/3/2010 11:34:14 PM|SETI@home|Message from server: No work sent 6/3/2010 11:34:14 PM|SETI@home|Message from server: No work is available for Astropulse v5 6/3/2010 11:34:14 PM|SETI@home|Message from server: Your NVIDIA GPU has insufficient memory (need 254MB) 6/3/2010 11:34:14 PM|SETI@home|Message from server: Your NVIDIA GPU has insufficient memory (need 384MB) Does anyone know of a fix for this? |

Have you changed any desktop options lately. resolution? are you on windows 7 and running Aero? cant tell because your computer(s) are hidden In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

When did you upgrade your drivers? Looks like you got the newer 2.3 DLLs. They require more memory. The older drivers, 190.xx/ 191.xx use the older 2.2 DLLs and run on less memory. You might want to revert back to one of them. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

I have unhid my computers. I haven't changed any desktop settings, and I am running Windows 7 and Aero as I have always been. I do update BOINC and my video card drivers on a regular basis. If reverting the driver will fix it, what is the latest version that will work, and where can I download it? Also, does SETI@home really need so much video memory? I wonder if they can address this in a future update as this seems like a new problem. |

Seti@Home doesn't need so much video memory, but the CUDA application does. If you merely run Seti on CPUs, any task takes up about 32MB of RAM. The tasks for the GPU have to be translated to something that the GPU understands, and this is taking up so much memory on the videocard. Well over 200 megabytes of it. This isn't something that will go away, it will only get worse in the future. But since most videocards come out now with 1GB or more memory on board, this isn't a problem anymore. Any outside influences that take up memory on the videocard will diminish the amount free for use by CUDA. This includes Windows Aero, the desktop resolution and colour-depth and what kinds of programs you run at Windows start-up. Even the amount of fonts you load makes a difference. The minimum that BOINC expects is 254MB on the card for CUDA2.2, while anything over CUDA2.3 will require 384MB at minimum. These CUDA 2.2 and 2.3s are defined by the drivers you have installed as well as whether or not you put in CUDA libraries manually. |

I have unhid my computers. I haven't changed any desktop settings, and I am running Windows 7 and Aero as I have always been. If you want to stay with the latest video card drivers the solution is to use Lunatics' Unified Installer http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=54288&nowrap=true#994550 During the Installation choose CUDA 2.2 DLLs  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

Well, I did the Lunatics' Unified Installer and it is downloading CUDA units now, but they are all experiencing Computation Errors. |

Can you either report them, or post part of your message log about the error? |

Ok you need to turn Aero off. if you look at your individual WU's you'll see that you have about 1/2 of the needed MB of GPU RAM needed to process the WU's. Aero is most likely the culprit In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Did you reboot lately? You may want to read: GPU RAM: any ideas on how to free up a few MB? Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
