Why do people visit Death Valley when it is hot? Try January when there may actually be a lake there and it will be a balmy 80F.

Half the "fun" for me is visiting when the heat is extreme. We NEVER get heat like it in the UK, indeed the highest EVER recorded in the UK is just over 100F, so it's nice to say I've felt hotter :D Last year it was 122F the day we visited Scotty's Castle and I loved it!

You picked the wrong time of the year to visit Orange County and parts of LA County because this time of the year we have something called June Glum. The moisture blows in from the ocean and it can take most of the day to burn off. Most of the time you will see it in April and June but by the time July shows up the glum is gone. If you get away from the Ocean you will be able to get more sun and heat. If you want to burn up, August and September are the best months for hot weather.

Know all about the June glum, but it is why I picked June for all the Theme Parks. I wouldn't have wanted to be running around like I have for the last week with really hot temps. Death Valley I'll be doing nothing but sight seeing so no physical activity to burn me out ;)

Us Brits aren't built to withstand the heat for too long ;)

I'm not new to the US btw, I've been at least once every year for the last 10 years and as often as 3 times some years :o

I moved here in 1976 and haven't been in the theme parks for the rides the entire time I have lived here. I live just a mile north of Disney Land and hear the fireworks at night but have only been in the park for a job fair. Go figure.

Scarecrow just cleaned my clock over on the puns thread! I'm just gonna hang out here - catch my breath, lick my wounds, and hope for a win that doesn't involve any effort on my part. Whew!
