This keeps getting a bit political. This the Cafe...

If we look at the original statment, it is "I" (insert name here) have to decide about the path I am taking. No matter what happens, it is going to cost someone something.

I am going to take time to tell a story (Sea Story). In the mid 1970's while in the employ of the US Navy happened to be on a vessel that was scheduled to visit a port in a 3rd world country (we will not define a 3rd world country, google is your friend). During that visit which was almost a week long, a group in a part of the ship pooled their meger dollars and decided to "rent" a brothal. The actual cost of the 24/7 rent amounted to $54 dollars for 5 days and nights (including the bar for drinks).

So before anyone jumps on someone abusing someone else, there are parts of the world where many things are traded/bought and sold... I have enjoyed many "public markets" where I was not conversant in the language but did know how to hold up fingers and barter. In that case, we both won.

The net result is how to not be an ugly American, Canadian, European or pick your country. Becuase you lack empathy and compassion, you become the ugly person. People deal with You because they can read and trust you to a point. When You barter it is between you and the other person. When the government becomes involved, it is just that. No free (fair) enterprise. Then someone is paying.

In the case of the brothel, they made more than a years wages in 5 days. For some of the sailors, they had medical problems. You get what you pay for. Everthing has a cost! As things sound "nice" the cost is not always visible!

If you ask, "Me" I had some "free" good beer and left a tip.

So if you really want to discuss socialized medicine then please start a thread in the Political Forum

My thread.....one last comment.

My problems are real. And present me with unpleasant choices. I'd hate to think how much more unpleasant they would be if I were unemployed or employed and had no health insurance at all.

I still don't quite know what the bottom line is...I have to sit down with a HR person at work and untangle exactly what it is my present insurance will and won't do to help me.

The other thing is that I don't think the Canadian VS Obamian health care arguments hold much water, because as I understand it, the Obamian dictate is that everybody is forced to buy health insurance, but from for-profit health care networks. Which is not the same as the Canadian government run heath care system.....

But, as others have suggested, this is not the proper forum for such debate......
So, if you wish to discuss it further, I will start a thread for such in the political forum. Please discuss those issues there.

If you wish to post further comments about my personal situation, this would be the place.

And mods, please feel free to transfer the purely political posts from this thread to the new one in politics.

Meow meow.

After my post in the Cafe regarding my loss of eyesight and the costs and choices I appear to be faced with, debate has started on the subject of health care and specifically health insurance.

And the subject of Canadian government sponsored health care and insurance VS the current US system and the Obamian dictated system.

You are free to continue those debates here.

My apologies for taking the thread off course. Lesson learned and I'll stick to what I know - and what little that is can be found within the Number Crunching treads.

Best of luck Micheal. It will come out fine.
