The data base server crashed over the weekend. It has been brought back on line, but we are in a recovery period, which means the bandwidth is max out at the moment. It is a matter of luck whether your system manages to connect.

Note, that this being Tuesday, there will likely be a another outage for several hour this morning Pacific time for the weekly maintenance and data backup.

Further, this evening there is going to be a maintenance power outage to the building which is expected to last 4 to 6 hrs and will also effect the project. we can expect another long recovery period when everyone is going to be pounding the servers in an attempt to upload/download work. See Seti home page news section for the announcements.

Misread it in my rush to post before leaving for work. Thank goodness things will have a chance to stabilize a bit before the next outage.

Yeah, we get a whole day and a half before the next scheduled outage. Hope this one doesn't last too long! :-)

When a task is complete, it often takes several days before a new one starts percolating on my computer. Why is this, and how can it be avoided? A message saying "No tasks running" for days on end doesn't make for the coolest screensaver, and it probably isn't helping to find ET. As far as I can tell, I've got all the proper settings. Can't this thing be set up so that it immediately asks for a new task when one is completed?

Thank you.

The account you are posting with was created in Aug 24 05 but has no computer attached to Seti and has never completed any work. You must have two different accounts.

This didn't answer my question. How do I get new tasks immediately without having to go for several days with none? If it's impossible -- if the best minds on earth or anywhere else can't do it -- just say so and I'll take the software off my computer and stop wasting my time. Is there anyone reading this message board who might have the answer and isn't a bureaucrat?

the best you can do is to increase the amount of work you keep in your cache. This will keep your computer busy and you won't have to wait for days for work. Also remember that you'll get more work as you return "non-errored" good WU's.

I have not been able to get new tasks all week. Something going on? I even updated BOINC, no luck.

check the seti@home home page.
The project down due to a network problem.
We have lost connectivity somewhere between our two routers. One of these routers is located at the Space Sciences Lab and the other at the Peering And Internet eXchange (PAIX) in Palo Alto. Until we get this problem cleared up we cannot distribute new work. 16 Jul 2010 14:28:50 UTC · Comment

But you do know how to yell online.

Your BOINC downloaded (or is still in the process of downloading ) one task. If it isn't in yet, then do know that just about everyone is trying to download work at this moment, thereby stressing out the 100 Mbit line Seti has. The work will come in eventually, you will just need to have patience.

And please, disable your CAPS LOCK. Posting in all CAPS means you're SHOUTING at other people. That's considered very rude; do you want to be considered a rude person?
