I just installed on a new Ubuntu system. Boinc runs, but at the rate it's processing, it's going to take pretty close to forever to produce any results.

The CPU is an AMD Athlon II X2 250. Benchmarks look ok (2098 fmips, 4362 imips), but the active setiathome_enhanced 5.13 task has been running for 80 hours and is only 5% done! I've given boic 100% cpu and everything else I can think of. It's definitely running, just not getting anywhere.

Any suggestions?

Are you using optimized applications on the machine?

The CPU is an AMD Athlon II X2 250. Benchmarks look ok (2098 fmips, 4362 imips)...

The online computer details of your linux AMD host show
Measured floating point speed 1751.44 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 6771.98 million ops/sec

There should be two tasks running on that host.

Are you sure that the CPU is running at 100%? No energy-saving mode (or some such) enabled?

Gundolf

I ran into that last night during an experiment, it is the speed stepping kicking in.

Yes, there actually are 2 tasks, one per cpu.
Both are running at the same glacially slow speed.

Thanks all, it was indeed the power stepping. On this computer (HP), there doesn't appear to be a bios setting to disable it. So, I used the Gnome cpu speed applet and set both cpus to full. Of course, it now sounds like a 747 at full takeoff power. :)
