I've read many posts talking about the different GPU's and several with issues, and even a post that showed a few GPU's and the RAC one can expect with it. Please, someone, create a post, a link, a page, a stats, or something that shows the BEST graphics cards to use with SETI (and/or BOINC) projects to acheive the highest RAC! I have a GTX260 installed but I dream of upgrading several of my machines with multiple GPU's each and I dont know what cards to buy? I dont want to wait a ton of money on graphics cards to find out they dont work (like the GTX 480, does that work yet?) A nice list of many popular video cards and thier RAC would be fantastic!!! a recommendation of the top 2-3 reliable cards would be great for now. (PS I saw claims a GTX260 should get near 15k RAC, my RAC is more like 6500 and thats with several machiens, not just my GTX260) |

Its not the GPU its your apps. It appears you aren't running the VLAR killer or the rescheduler. I see several VLAR WU's that took you around 2 hours. this is now long your CPU would take to complete them had you had a rescheduler. The VLAR killer just kills the VLAR WU's and sends them back to seti instead of running them on your PC. the Rescheduler allows you to change the WU's from your GPU to your CPU and Visa versa. I hadn't checked on your CPU but I bet you aren't running the Lunatics optimized apps either. your easiest fix is to use the Lunatics unified installer and rescheduler. THis will get the most out of your CPU/GPU power. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

ok, not sure which WU's you checked but I have about a dozen machines, various versions of CPU's and several video cards. I think 3 of them have supported GPU's like the GTX260, GE Fource 8400 GS, and GTX 275. I can see a major jump in my WU graph but its still less then I expected. It doesnt matter which PC you look at. check your tasks. look only at the valid results. You'll see that you have a boatload of work that completes in 1-2000 seconds and is fine. then you'll see multiple WU's that that 5-7000 seconds. these are the VLAR that I told you about. The CUDA app doesnt process the VLAR WU's very well at all. Thus my suggestion again to head on over to Lunatics and get their unified installer and rescheduler. lets hope it works well. You didnt mention if you had installed the rescheduler. Some user swear by it. There are times when we get a massive amount of VLAR and that will cause your ability to get more work down. the VLAR killer errors out the VLAR WU's. You are allowed 1 less WU download per error. hit 100 errors in a day and you'll get 1 WU a day/core until you return non errored work In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. I love the rescheduler but I still have the VLAR-kill option bewcause my rescheduler wont start up on it's own after a reboot. I have had VLARs sneak in on me after reboot but before I remember to start my rescheduler. The VLAR-killer got them before they could cause any problems. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

You can set up rescheduler to start up on boot. Just put a shortcut to the executable in the startup folder (in the start menu) or create a registry key in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. My server (my S@H cruncher) is pretty much a stand-alone box, so I have BOINC, rescheduler and most other things start up on boot. |

A manufacturer OCed GTX260-216 is a well choice. (prize/RAC/wattage ratio) ~ 15,000 RAC. Soon (@ SETI@home BETA is a test of a 6.10_Fermi_app) the GTX4xx series GPUs will be able to crunch also at SETI@home (MAIN). In the meantime you could use a mod of the CUDA app, V12b here at SETI@home (MAIN). But the whole chip isn't used. Here is the famous ReSchedule tool. I had the ReSchedule tool in Autostart, but after (all) reboot(s) of my PC I got a crazy error in the tool and it didn't worked. So all the time I make a reboot, I click on the icon on my WinDesktop. That's always the first activity I do. :-D |
