Not sure if this is the right message board,

but I'm trying to install a new version of boinc (boinc_6.10.44_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh) on a Fedora Core 12 machine.

But when trying to run boinccmd I get an error saying it can't load libz.so.1

'find' does not find any such library on the machine and 'yum' cannot find any such library that I can install.

So where do I get libz.so.1?

libz.so.1 (from Zlib) is a compression method used in BOINC. Make sure that BOINC has permission to read/write/execute in all paths where you installed the software to. If all is well, the correct zlib libraries come with BOINC, but in case you're still getting trouble, see zlib rpm build for : Fedora 12.

Just a suggestion: if I'm correct, your FC12 machine have 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.x86_64 installed (i.e. 64-bit Linux). Probably, 64-bit BOINC (boinc_6.10.**_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh) would be better suited for such OS?

though its more appropriate, the 32 bit BOINC should work fine. If he runs optimized apps he'll need to rememeber that he chose to run the 32 bit BOINC

I'll try that.
