I'm running BOINC 6.10.43 (MacBookPro, OSX 10.5.8) and get the same HTTP errors you are getting, also for about a week.
Try a re-boot... under Win XP, there area less intrusive ways of doing this, but they don't work on Mac's.

Even if we couldn't respond, I would still have this tech news on my rss news reader. I like to know how SETI is doing and plan computing resources appropriately. |

Hmm.. strange..
Made a reboot of the PC and now the DL work.
Not so strange, DNS was supplying the IP addresses of both download servers, if your host was trying to download from the dead one it could only fail. I had to use the "ipconfig /flushdns" to get downloads.
Both are up now, thanks to whoever solved that! Joe
BOINC v6.10.24 and above solved that, with a libcurl bug-fix which properly implements round-robin DNS.
Ohh well..
I got again DL probs.
So I made a reboot, didn't helped (with BOINC V6.10.18).
Then I installed BOINC V6.10.43, but also no joy, no DL possible, although a lot of DLs in the overview.
I like to edit the CPU name in the registry.. :-D
BOINC V6.10.43 or a version earlier don't take longer the CPU name from the registry like it V6.10.18 do, it take the info from somewhere other. My edit wasn't longer showed in BOINC Manager.
So I downgraded to BOINC V6.10.18, deleted the # signs in front of the SETI@home server addresses in my hosts file and BOINC DL now without probs. :-)
I would like if I could update to BOINC V6.10.43+ if a newer version take again the CPU name from the registry. ;-)
Why was it changed?
SETI@home crew, you know that somewhere is a prob?!
The members need this little 'hosts trick' for DL.. 'Message 992546'.

Can anyone help tell me why I have not been able to download any SETI files for several days; all attempts come back with HTTP errors?
As can be seen below SETI downloads fail but all other transactions succeed.

Hi Leonari,
One of the download server's was acting up. In the most recent tech news above this one, Matt thinks he just fixed it a bit ago. Try again. If it still doesn't work, please come back and let us know!

Thanks, everything is back to normal now!
However, after a bit of thought, why did it take so many hours (until just now and my personal intervention @ UTC 07:00) for the remedy to filter down to my machine? Seems strange.

When you ask for the address for the download server you get one of two addresses with a 50% probability if everything is working. Your computer is told not to check the address again for 24 hours, so when things go wrong, it takes up to 24 hours to get the other address. If the round robin DNS does not know about the problem, you still have a 50% chance of getting the address of the broken server.

So is that why I'm not getting any WU's at this time? I ran out of seti WU's this afternoon and it keeps polling for new ones and i keep getting this:

No I have been getting the no new work message on one of my machine my quad, however my P4 download on at 10:15 UTC must have had one of the last lot It was a shortie

I have got plenty of "Scheduler request failed: Error 417."
And my statistics are frozen since 13.April 2010 :-(

Take a look at the server status page - there are virtually no "tapes" to process, so the splitters are taking a holiday.
So chill out and let your crunchers catch their breath.

Like some, I have also received no new tasks and I do have a small backlong of unvalidate tasks (15-20).
I know that those who work with this equipment are doing all in their power to get things back online.
