After attempting to install the Lunatics’ optimized (setiathome_6.03_i686-apple-darwin) Astropulse application on Mac Core2 running 10.6.2 in 64-bit mode, I found that I could not get any work for SETI@home enhanced when Astropulse ran out of work. After browsing the Lunatics forums for way too long, I saw recommendations to reinstall the Bionic client, and reset the SETI project, after deleting the “app_info.xml†file.This may have worked, but I still get errors when trying to obtain enhanced work units. I also have a backlog in my online results of 6 pending workunits but I don’t know where they are or how I could get them back. Presently, I’m letting my Einstein@home cache run down in case I need to do any major surgery to fix this problem. Sorry for the long log, but it’s for the best... I think this will fix the problem, has both Alex Kan's Optimized Multibeam app and the Lunatics Optimized Astropulse app. Intel Mac Unified Installer Just select the correct option from the list-Core 2 Duo. |

Thank you Arkayn and Alex Kan for you mac installer: Since I'm just getting introduced to the world of compiling BSD applications, I'm not ready to make my own just yet. Anyway, my next concern is with the 'app_info.xml' file. Will this have to be manually edited after every update from Alex? Will SETI still continue to update my applications automatically and over-ride the app_info.xml file? I have not been able to locate clear answers or how-to's in regard to answering these questions in either the lunatics' or SETI@home's forums. Regards, Chris Graduate Research Asst. When you switch over to the anonymous platform, i.e. app_info, that makes you responsible to update the apps as they come out. On the Multibeam area, we are still running the version that was released about 3 years ago. It is still current for the work we are doing. The Astropulse app was just released about 2 months ago after testing on the Lunatics forum. I am the creator of the installer app as there is the issue when installing optimized apps you had to reinstall BOINC to fix the permissions error, this installs the files with the proper permissions. I update the files and packages on my server whenever there is a new release. |

I am the creator of the installer app as there is the issue when installing optimized apps you had to reinstall BOINC to fix the permissions error, this installs the files with the proper permissions. The permissions can also be fixed quite easily from the Finder’s Get Info dialog, without needing to reinstall BOINC. |

Hello again. I don't want to blame the optimized apps, but I can't get any work for SETI! It is odd that I was able crunch to WUs using the optimized apps, but I have not received work since the 11th. I also noticed that I have no less than 9 WU's listed as in-progress on my results page. Two were even reportedly sent on the 13th. I tried 'update' the project and have even 'reset' it, but I still can't get work. I have been receiving the same message every time SETI communicates with the server: "Not reporting or requesting tasks". P.S. I've been crunchin' for Einstein@home in the meantime (at least 80 hours worth). |

Hello again. It sounds like SETI is paying back debt to Einstein at the moment, BOINC thinks SETI has been overworked recently and is allowing Einstein to work until it catches back up. If you want to test it, suspend Einstein and then request work from SETI. It should then download some. |

Thank you for putting my mind at ease. I tried your suggestion and I did immediately get SETI WU's. I have about 4 Einstein@home WU's in the que right now and they are taking priority. I don't get nearly as many done as SETI units as they take ~11-13hrs each. Thanks again. |

When I used the Unified Mac Installer, I noticed that for my machine, Core Duo, the installer had 0 MB for the size of the files, even though it listed around 4 MB for the Core 2 Duo and the Zeon installs. Everything seemed to go okay and after reinstalling Boinc to get the permissions fixed, it is running okay. I just can't get any AP work units. Cheers |
