A little light on the explorer.exe cpu hogging with CUDA tasks

I don't know if it can be of any use or if anyone has seen this before but I came accros a whole batch of tasks that made my pc allmost unworkable, I even had problems reaching the Boinc manager to pause my crunching.

I looked at the files and from what I can tell the datestamp is on them, I looked at all the files and they appear to be from 2 dates (the 2 batches I found to destroy my pc's performance).

Maybe someone has enough knowledge to find out why they do this, but I'm 100% sure it has something to do with the CUDA tasks since it stops as soon as I suspend it.

Now I'm saying it's the fault of boinc or seti or whatever, I'm just saying that obviously there is something going on, I'm not the only one to have this and it would be nice if someone could figure out what the problem is.

This all might have been said already, if that's the case, I didn't find it yet, just trying to figure out why it's doing that.

edit: just some extra info, even when watching movies and doing normal light work I leave the gpu and both my cores crunching at full capacity, my cpu has been at 100% all day and I can still work pretty comfortable with it. It slows down a bit sometimes yes but when that hickup is peeping around the corner it takes me a couple minutes just to get into the manager to disable it.

Also, didn't know where to put this thread, if it's the wrong place, feel free to move it around.

I am no expert and I am sure someone else will look at the tasks but,I suspect that you are trying to crunch VLAR's on your GPU.It is a classical slowdown symptom.
I see that you are using stock apps that Seti sends.
VLAR's are Very Low Angle Range tasks that crunch perfectly well on CPU's but not on graphics processors.
If you get the Reschedule prog it allows you to transfer tasks between GPU's and CPU's.It will move VLAR tasks to the CPU for crunching and that will stop the problems that you are expeiencing.
There is also a Unified Installer that has opptomised apps that will crunch tasks more efficiently.

The link you gave is not accessible by others, but I took this one and had a look at your aborted tasks.

At first reading of your post, I thought you'd have problems with VLAR tasks (Very Low Angle Range), since those are pretty heavy on the GPU and can cause the problems you described. But then I saw that you also aborted CPU tasks, and the CUDA tasks I checked weren't even near the VLAR range.

So, I'm not sure where your problem lies, but perhaps you want to do an advanced forum search anyway on "VLAR" and "reschedul" (I left out the last character on purpose, since that way it'll find "reschedule", "rescheduler" and even "reschedular").

I already looked into the unified installer etc but haven't had enough time to really get into it yet, I'll keep crunching with the normal client for now untill I figured out what exactly I want/is best for my setup.

One little extra question though, I'm sure I could find the answer if I looked into it but I won't be having a lot of time the next few days.
In a couple months I will be upgrading to a quadcore and hd58** series card.
I was thinking to keep my 8800GT for physx (not sure if it still can be done when u got a radeon card in your system), would it be possible to keep crunching on the 8800gt? I would just let my radeon idle then since it doesn't really have much use in seti and that way it wouldn't slow my normal work down.

yes you should be able to run a Nvidia card and an ATI at the same time. you should be able to run seti astropulse using the hybrid app and other projects on your ATI

I recently discovered these VLAR work units, was quite disappointed how ridiculously inefficient they are on CUDA processing. 5 minute WU, 5 minute WU, 6 minute WU, 3 hour WU with massive slowdown......oh okay -_-
