Hi community! :-)

I thought it would be nice to share new experiences with you.. ;-)

A short test showed that the current new nVIDIA driver 197.13 have same speed like the old 190.x (with CUDA V2.3).

Maybe if you installed the CUDA V3.0 .dll's you see speed up? Maybe yes, maybe no.

Make a test on your hardware and let us know.. :-)

Yes, my observations proved the same some time ago, at least with 8800GT.
I had no time to make extensive tests and I'm glad I found confirmation.
My "tests" were over 197.15, btw.

I've been trying out the new drivers for a while on my fastest cruncher, Although I don't have a previous baseline as this machine is so new, I found the newest drivers to be fast and stable. The older machines are getting them shortly.

Regards,

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

The .dll files must be named different!

Glad to see it work well also for others.

I didn't used bench WUs and the current mix of AR WUs isn't the same for to compare well.
It look like 190.x & CUDA V2.3 have same speed like 197.13 & CUDA V3.0.14 .

On my OCed GTX260-216 with OCed QX6700 with WinXP 32bit SP3 (with MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_VLARKill_FPLim2048.exe).

Is it me or does these Cuda 3 drivers make the fan work harder?

On my system nothing different between 190.x & CUDA V2.3 and 197.13 & CUDA V3.0.14 .

WinXP 32bit SP3.

'Maybe' very little speed up in CUDA calculation.

That was only one specific version of the drivers, right? Don't recall the ver number but I never used them.

IIRC, a nVIDIA driver of the 196.x series switched off the fan.

For some days on the nVIDIA driver DL site was a warning about.
Now it's away.

I tried the Cude drivers on my notebook, it has v195.62 installed and here it's quite clear the fan makes more noise.

Edit: Guess Cuda 3 drivers doesn't work well with these Nvidia drivers on my notebook, real slow.

Updated to 197.13 and fan speed is normal again. They seem faster than 195.62/Cuda2.3.

btw is there a program to test crunching speed?

Now I'm not longer convinced that 197.13 is faster than 190.x ..

I don't know what's faster.. ;-)

I had let run a few bench WUs and compared 190.38 + CUDA 2.3 with 197.13 + CUDA 2.3/3.0.14:

I downloaded 197.13 driver from NVIDIA but have not installed yet because I know that the cuda and cudart dll files are not there.

Where do I get the cuda 3.0.14 files?

edit Windows XP 32 bit

Lunatics.

But read the rest of the thread - you need to copy and rename one file. And you'll probably find it isn't worth the hassle.
