i downloaded boinclogx so i can log data and plot wu's to the seti@home mapview, but i'm having trouble setting up boinc log x. It is asking for the boinc client directory; is this simply where boinc was installed on to my computer? If so, going to C:/Program Files/BOINC results in boinclogx saying "The specified directory doesn't seem to be a valid BOINC directory!". The program will not connect to the client. |

Since those programs were written with BOINC 4 and BOINC 5 in mind, and those BOINC versions used an all-in-one directory, it's not weird it won't find anything on the BOINC 6 installations. BOINC 6 separates the program directory from the data directory, it's the data directory that you need. For Windows XP the default BOINC data directory path is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ Unless you defined the path yourself, of course, then you will know where you put it. ;) |

Since version 6, BOINC has two directories: the program directory (the one you listed) and the data directory, which is needed by boinclogx. The path to the data dircory is listed in the Messages tab of BOINC manager after a restart of the client. The directory itself might be hidden by windows. if the directory is hidden by windows, how can I make boinclogx recognize it? Browsing for it through blx doesn't make it appear, and there doesn't seem to be a way to type in paths. |

Any Windows "open" box will give you the possibility to just type in a link and click Open, you'll then be transported to that link if it exists and the contents will be showing. But as far as I know, on Windows XP, the directory isn't hidden. That's only on Windows Vista and above. I could be wrong though, I never use the default path. Yet, since I gave you the path in my previous post, why not take a look? |

still can't figure out how to type it in; it's a "browse for folder" dialoge, and all it's letting me do is sort through and select folders, which it adds to a list that you can check and uncheck. The "directory for log files", however, does give you the ability to type, but this directory is where it saves data to, not where it gets it from. ---- nevermind, i understand what you mean now ----- k, cool stuff, seems to be working |
