Thumper crashed around midnight, stopping anything that needed to talk to the science database. We're rebooting now, but it'll probably be several hours to resync the RAID arrays before we can turn work generation or result handling back on.

Thank you Captain Eric!
The few moments it took you to pass that info on will save hundreds of hours of wondering out here in Setiland.

Eric.... many thanks for the update on system status. Many of us really do appreciate the staff input regularly on these pages.

<sigh> .... and MilkyWay is down for maintenance too today.

Thank you for the update Eric!

One of the foundations of a functional `customer' service department is the timely distribution of accurate and informative information... even in an SMS style message.

A few bits/bytes of info is infinitely superior to nothing... ;-)

Software RAID, so there's no battery backup of unwritten data. I'm guessing that the driver is very conservative and resyncs anytime there might be a question as to the status of the arrays.

Didn't IBM use the term "fixed drive" where everyone else used "hard drive".
Sort of antonymic phrases...
