I prefer to think that they know what they are doing (that has been proven often enough!) and that it is off for a good reason. F. ![]() |

The replica has been decomissioned. They split the Multibeam and Astropulse tables into 2 separate DB servers. |

So, does that mean we will no longer have access to our state of processing of tasks? Decommissioned replica sounds as if you mean a permanent cessation. Or will there be a similar facility with the 2 (mb & ap) databases replacing the one "replica"? But perhaps I am not understanding what you have said? Is this the first we hear of the important change? (Or should I say "Where was it announced?", being somewhere I did not see it) Keith |

IF there will be no replica, then somebody needs to point all database inquiries to the master, because right now, they are not getting current data. My body may be here, but my mind is in a galaxy far, far away. Have made friends here. Most were cats. ![]() |

IF there will be no replica, then somebody needs to point all database inquiries to the master, because right now, they are not getting current data. The DB's that's been split into two are the SETI@home science database, and Astropulse science database. Those have nothing to do with the BOINC master database and the BOINC replica database, when it comes to our ability to see our work. That's still the job of BOINC replica database which since yesterdays outage has been offline. Sten-Arne |

So, who needs to be told that the Replica is no longer being updated? Someone at BOINC? Have they been told? Or is there a reason why it can no longer be updated? If so, will the same access be available through the 2 new SETI databases? And when? (If at all) Keith |

So, who needs to be told that the Replica is no longer being updated? We have never had, nor do we need access to the science database. Our purpose as volunteers is to populate the science database. BOINC isn't designed or intended to hold completed results. As for the rest: No one needs to be told. It isn't that important. You're making a huge assumption when you say "can no longer be updated" and it is in fact somewhat normal for the replica to be down for a while. The skepticism behind the "and when? (if at all)" is discouraging, given the fact that the folks running the project have done a superb job of doing huge science with little money and "hand-me-down" hardware for a decade. |

So, who needs to be told that the Replica is no longer being updated? As I said, the replica you're talking about isn't the one that "updates you". That's been done, and will still afaik be done through the BOINC replica database jocelyn, which is offline for the moment, but is expected to go online any time now. Almost every Tuesday outage the BOINC replica database jocelyn, is put offline until it's synced again with the master DB. Don't confuse the different DB's with each other. The 2 "new" databases doesn't now or before when they were one, have anything to do with you seeing your results. Sten-arne |

Thanks, Sten-arne, for repeating explanation which i did not quite understand the first time. That the new data bases are those referred for science purposes. While the Replica fulfils a different purpose entirely. Ned. I would like you to realise, i was asking questions, not making any assumptions. And hope there are people who will answer questions posed by my ignorance without them being dismissed as being not important. To me the answers are of interest. I quite appreciate your comments about doing things on a meagre budget, but i would appreciate that not being thrown back as an answer to every query that is posed. You must appreciate that everyone is not quite as clever and knowledgeable as you are. Keith |

Ned. Keith, I didn't mean to offend you as being "unimportant" and definitely not "dismissive" but was hoping to get across the idea that there is a track record here. We as a society have come to a point where we expect and demand instant fixes. We assume when it isn't fixed right now that the only reason it isn't fixed is because it has been discontinued. In your message, you said "is there a reason that it can no longer be updated?" and that seems to assume that it is a permanent condition, and we're going to have to live with no statistics, no progress. "if at all" seems to suggest that this is a permanent condition. My observation isn't clever or knowledgeable. I observe:

The replica database is back online and catching up to the master as we speak. My body may be here, but my mind is in a galaxy far, far away. Have made friends here. Most were cats. ![]() |

Houston we have a problem???? The work done and statistics have not updated for about 12 hours. I have tried forcing it. Everything appears "Normal" on server status (7 splitters still disabled) Does anyone know if there is a problem?? |

... We also appear to be having a problem or two with the "science status" page: the "overflow rate" has been at 0.0% for a couple of days every time I looked at it, (highly unlikely to be true) and the link to Arecibo shows "Values as of 38760 minutes ago... so that's apparently down, too . ![]() Hello, from Bangkok, Thailand!! The Cricket graph show again after a few hours very less, now more traffic to and from the SETI@home servers. So new work should be available, but current very slowly. The PC/tasks overview will be again up-to-date if the replica database is again online.
