Thumper crashed around midnight, stopping anything that needed to talk to the science database. We're rebooting now, but it'll probably be several hours to resync the RAID arrays before we can turn work generation or result handling back on.

One of the foundations of a functional `customer' service department is the timely distribution of accurate and informative information... even in an SMS style message.
A few bits/bytes of info is infinitely superior to nothing... ;-)

I work in ICT, and when my pc on my desk failed on Monday I didnt think it could get much worse, rebuilt it, got it running, then the dvd drive failed.... not on the same level but its still the same law that applies.... the law of s*d |

Thanks for the update. I wonder why evertime thumper crashes that you have reSync the raid array? Anyone know it is software raid or hardware raid?

Software RAID, so there's no battery backup of unwritten data. I'm guessing that the driver is very conservative and resyncs anytime there might be a question as to the status of the arrays.

Didn't IBM use the term "fixed drive" where everyone else used "hard drive".
Sort of antonymic phrases...
