Coffee must be healthier as it boils the water thereby killing off all that bad bacteria in the water. This hot water is then poured on the coffee grounds thereby killing off any bacterial contamination that may be present in it.

Having lived in Santiago and contracted my case of "Chilenitis" (Bad water and its less-than-pleasant gastric consequences), I can 100% vouch for either coffee or tea.

Alternatively, you can use the Gaucho's trick of taking some rocks, soil, and charcoal, putting it all in a napkin/bandana, and then let the water strain through the earthy filter. The final result is not only safe for consumption, but is so odd-tasting that one will inevitably come to the conclusion that coffee would be much better.

Today's travel tip: Never ask for ice in your soft drink - the water used is always from the tap. (Don't ask - Just do!)
