sorry jumped the gun I am not alone, haven't gotten an answer from them yet, but it seems to be an on going issue. just wanted to correct myself. apparently it's just the screen-saver not working, the project is now ready to report, so it seems to have been working all night (we'll see if I get any credit or if it reports a malfunction).

P.S. is there any way to remove one of your own posts after posting, or is the only solution to edit the content out as I did in the post listed as replied to..

maybe we're just like the bacteria. In that "the creator" sees us but we're a glitch in the system.
Here is a theory I've been working through.

Assume(isn't that how all theories start) the universe as we know it is just a machine (like a car engine).
If that were the case then the solar systems would be the atoms (where the planets=electrons and the sun=nucleus).
A galaxy would be one whole molecule with the each star being one atom. and so forth (I could go on but I can feel some people's eyes glazing over as I type. LOL)
The question is what is alone?
Or, better yet, does the bacteria in the cut on your finger think of you as a god, or is the cut their "known universe" and anything else is speculation?
Maybe our planet is just an electron with too many Quarks or muons or whatever they would equate to in Quantum Mechanics

If you want to have a discussion, you may want to take it to one of the other sections of the board. This one is for News (even if there hasn't been any).

I agree, we need to be cautious any E.Ts that might pick up our broadcasts and translate them will know quite a bit about us and may show caution about us.
Keep listening because if we do find a signal it will be years befor we decide to make contact ( if we can ) the more infomation we have the better but first we need to find that signal

According to Weekly Meeting Updates 4/22/10

We're going to start posting tech news updates again, by popular demand, and we're also getting closer to posting our best signal candidates for SETI@home on the website.

Will this be 'real time' or frequently updated, e.g the best candidate of the previous month/week/day or the best candidate so far until it is replaced by a 'better' one ?

Way to go, you've disenfranchised all dial-up users.

Hopefully you will find the debate worth the 18 hours it will take to download on your dialup connection! I've uploaded just the audio (57 MB) if you have bandwidth limitations.

If anyone has ideas for transcoding the video for lower bitrates, transcribing for the severely bandwidth challenged, uploading elsewhere, etc... please do so!

Cheers,

Andrew

it is momo19, what me write is the true, i sword for it front God's Throne.

I have seen a spaceship when i was infant in my garden, everybody was sleeping except me.

I have seen another one when i had a job in siderurgy, there was light of different colours under. And than the under face has been transformed in transparency and i have seen a man inside.

so the others people which come here, see the war, the pollution and does not want to have contact with animals, brute.

but in 2009, i found a signal and emited a certain frequencies, that irritate
some ET. and they have come to the Belgian Town of " Nivelles ", and than they
come to the school, near my house, my spirit told me they were bad ET, so i have
put a cable made with iron and copper the day before, and when i pray The Lord.
they escape, and with iron and copper they could not enter my house, perhaps in the garage of my car?!
but at the night, i leave my house without arms to see what they wanted.
So he hide, but he has spoken like in the film "sign" with Mel Gibson.
So i am sure they are from Gog and Magog, a great donkey, who cry like a monster
to go with two very small, whom magpie more than budgerigar or parakeet.
but they made a mistake, because i don't know how to crash spaceship. LOL

Thanks, and I apologize for my too sharp comment yesterday. I was in a grouchy mood...

Transcoding video down to files for dial-up users isn't really practical. RealPlayer can accept an audio plus slides mode which might be a useful approximation, presumably other media formats have similar seldom used capabilities.

Spoken word audio can be compressed a lot. The AAC format allows for sample rates as low as 8000/sec but I don't know if any available encoders actually implement those low rates. The focus is on high quality music. http://www.knology.net/~daneandkaren/compression/ has samples demonstrating what can be accomplished with MP3. The Speex encoder should be even better although it's not so widely supported. Very recent versions of the Flash player apparently do support it, though.

If you do find time to produce a much smaller file, I hope you'll also consider doing the same from the S@H 10th Anniversary videos.
Joe
