sorry jumped the gun I am not alone, haven't gotten an answer from them yet, but it seems to be an on going issue. just wanted to correct myself. apparently it's just the screen-saver not working, the project is now ready to report, so it seems to have been working all night (we'll see if I get any credit or if it reports a malfunction).

P.S. is there any way to remove one of your own posts after posting, or is the only solution to edit the content out as I did in the post listed as replied to..

If you want to have a discussion, you may want to take it to one of the other sections of the board. This one is for News (even if there hasn't been any).

I agree, we need to be cautious any E.Ts that might pick up our broadcasts and translate them will know quite a bit about us and may show caution about us.

According to Weekly Meeting Updates 4/22/10 We're going to start posting tech news updates again, by popular demand, and we're also getting closer to posting our best signal candidates for SETI@home on the website. Will this be 'real time' or frequently updated, e.g the best candidate of the previous month/week/day or the best candidate so far until it is replaced by a 'better' one ? ____________ Join TeamACC Sometimes I think we are alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we are not. In either case the idea is quite staggering.

Hi all, Size: 380.93 MB Way to go, you've disenfranchised all dial-up users. Joe

Hopefully you will find the debate worth the 18 hours it will take to download on your dialup connection! I've uploaded just the audio (57 MB) if you have bandwidth limitations.

Hopefully you will find the debate worth the 18 hours it will take to download on your dialup connection! I've uploaded just the audio (57 MB) if you have bandwidth limitations. Thanks, and I apologize for my too sharp comment yesterday. I was in a grouchy mood... Transcoding video down to files for dial-up users isn't really practical. RealPlayer can accept an audio plus slides mode which might be a useful approximation, presumably other media formats have similar seldom used capabilities. Spoken word audio can be compressed a lot. The AAC format allows for sample rates as low as 8000/sec but I don't know if any available encoders actually implement those low rates. The focus is on high quality music. http://www.knology.net/~daneandkaren/compression/ has samples demonstrating what can be accomplished with MP3. The Speex encoder should be even better although it's not so widely supported. Very recent versions of the Flash player apparently do support it, though. If you do find time to produce a much smaller file, I hope you'll also consider doing the same from the S@H 10th Anniversary videos. Joe
