The State of the Union, today: Choose Up Sides What side are you on? There's no middle-ground. Our Congress is ready-- constituents found. What side are you on? No time to decide. The people who think, we cannot abide. Election-time comes, for hand-helds, alone. Conventional methods, we cannot condone. What side are you on? It's winner-take-all. * * * jm 1 March 2012 |

The State of the Union, today: The Marble Thinker (by me) Truth - permeates our existence. Falsehood - hinders our persistence. What will you offer up in resistance? Will you swallow it hook, line & sinker? Prime-time, boob-tube marble thinker. What they're trying to sell ya - It's called propaganda. Truth rearranged, money's exchanged. Truth become lies, bought. Never given a 2nd thought. We - are watching from the fence. Watching them fight for the defense. Just takes a few thousand dollars, for them to put a spin on the evidence. Will we swallow it hook, line & sinker? Prime-time boob-tube marble thinker. What they're trying to tell ya - could it be they have an agenda? It's all perception. If there are 2 sides to every story, is there no such thing as deception? Artful depiction - leaving only 1 choice for the jury ... Not enough evidence for conviction. Truth - "It's all relative" isn't what Daddy said. Falsehood - is what we keep getting fed. I will offer up a fight until I'm dead. No, I won't swallow it - hook, line & sinker. I define the fine line between an open mind & a marble thinker. So awkward and out of place - I see you're charmed by my smiling face. Put me on the stand - raise my right hand. Of course, you believe me. "He couldn't be lying, could he?" The Marble Thinker on ReverbNation. |

This one is dedicated to Uli -- Form 1040 Wages, and salaries, and tips, e-t-c, Taxable Interest, Attach Schedule B. Capital Gain equals zero, as does Royalties. Numbers have their places, with Soc. Security. A few hours spent, placing numerals on lines. The squares are appealing, my efforts, define. All troubles soon pale, as Requiremets, remind. But, faster I go, the Refund, so to find. Total Tax is revealed -- more Exemptions, to take? Oh, my, Total Payments, not enough did I make. Good grief -- no math errors, to correct the mistake. On the amount I will owe -- a penalty, my fate? Consolation, this year, for Yours Truly, to deem: Ninety-nine percent, average; one percent, are so mean! * * * jm 3 March 2012 |

"The Year Of The Nine" looking at people i once used to know they used to know me i just let it all go i couldn't hang on to whatever i lost just passing the days counting the cost some may have wondered where have i been? i used to be here a lot back then i remember the days i remember the times then i lost my way in the year of the nine i had a dream guess i had quite a few but the dream was obscured so it's long overdue what's left of my voice still wants to sing but time passed me by i don't sing anything some may have wondered where have i been? i used to be here a lot back then i remember the days i remember the times then i lost my way in the year of the nine my greatest weakness is my greatest strength i don't know how to give up when the quittin' bell rings i still see the world in the back of my heart just like it was then just a pure as the start some may have wondered where have i been? i used to be here a lot back then i remember the days i remember the times then i lost my way in the year of the nine (2011 db michel) PROUD TO BE TFFE! |

Gravitas A ball of thread, high density -- connected to eternity. The music's eerie harmonies -- a humbled, awed, humanity. No rush to give equations, grand -- nor ask of secrets, out of hand. Decisions made, from every land -- to justify, the pains of man. Communication, tailor-made -- for novice life, on profound stage. Its message, sure, for all to gauge -- a test, to merit turn of page. A transformation realized. A maturation, finalized. * * * j. r. martin 2 April 2012 |

"Far From Now" i'll be back i don't know how some distant daylight far from now i'll come rustling through your door just like the way i did before night may hinder cool and dark the emptiness that ending's start not one word i hate goodbyes the false affection lonely lies words were there for you to choose nothing ventured then you lose i'll remember what i gained what i lost remains the same gone away and left behind temporary sun won't shine so as i wander from your door remember what i said before i'll be knocking long and loud some distant daylight far from now (2012 db michel) Another rhyming exercise... Form 1040, Revisited The real 1040, put to bed -- with Uncle owing me, instead. I had a hunch it'd end, this way -- you don't make much, not much to pay. But, biting pencil does not end -- until Mass. State's Form 1, I send. The Health Care Info. starts it off -- plus, Senior Circuit Breaker stuff. If all goes well, I'll tip a beer -- and chalk up, yet, another year. No Turbo-Tax, to tax my mind -- just paper forms, and pencil, fine. And, now, it's up to Uncle Sam -- to spred our money, o'er the land. * * * j. r. martin 10 April 2012 |

I haven't seen any yet, Uli. ;o) Now, if only I could get the State of Mass. to allow voluntary deductions, life would be a bit easier (There are, I believe, approx. 18 other states which don't, as well.). So, it's the estimation route for Mass., as well. Will assume that it's a little easier for Calif. citizens to pay state taxes, than for us, here. |

Although I don't run, either competitively, or non-competitively, a friend of mine used to, in his younger years. Some of his friends ran in the last Boston Marathon, and he dedicated this poem, to them. His words: "I adapted his poem shown below for the runners in my club who did the marathon last Monday in that blistering heat. The framework for the poem came (was stolen) from Shakespeare's Henry Vth. It is about the English & French battle at Agincourt." -- Paul Mancuso, author Kindly consider this a dedication to all of you who, also, run. * We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds sweat with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so determined This day shall gentle his condition; And gentlemen in New England now-a-bed Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, But hold their bodies from that heat from Hell So they may run on another day * jm |

Both in my top ten.... When I Heard the Learn'd Astronomer When I heard the learn'd astronomer, When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me, When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them, When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room, How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick, Till rising and gliding out I wander'd off by myself, In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time, Look'd up in perfect silence at the stars. (Walt Whitman / 1865) ------------------------------------------------------------------ "Doxology" God fills my being to the brim with floods of His immensity. I drown within a drop of Him whose sea-bed is infinity. The Father's will is everywhere for chart and chance His precept keep. There are no beaches to His care nor cliffs to pluck from His deep. The Son is never far away from me for presence is what love compels. Divinely and incarnately He draws me where His mercy dwells. And lo, myself am the abode of Love, the third of the Triune, the primal surge and sweep of God and my eternal claimant soon! Praise to the Father and the Son and to the Spirit! May I be, O Water, Wave and Tide in One, Thine animate doxology. (From Selected Poetry of Jessica Powers) |
