"Away. Away"

the storm is coming
away, away
the mountains warn us
away, away
the time is over
away, away
it's time for running
away, away

the stars are falling
away, away
no surrender
away, away
the oceans boiling
away, away
it's time to remember
away, away

(this song came running through my mind one evening...after i wrote it...i had an Armageddon like dream...where flashing lights rose from the ground...i was told that the lights were defenses against our enemy's weapons...an enemy not of this earth...only one other person in the dream seemed concerned besides me...airports were closing and everyone seemed to think it was just another false alarm...i knew it wasn't....needless to say i woke up pretty creeped out)

Captain Avatar hates this one...So i make sure he sees it as much as possible.

I think Captain Avatar would like this one, especially in duplicate...

The knives were out,the flames were lit,

it seems the truth had been told,

the facts were there, plain to see,

but who could have been so bold,
------------------------------------

decisions were made,judgements passed,

speech is seems, is not free,

who gives the right, that god given right,

to point the finger at me,
----------------------------------------

so i will stand firm, alone like a rock

for i was taught right from wrong,

older now,not wiser it seems

but heart still beating and strong
----------------------------------------------

the sin it seems,is telling the truth,

regardless of unspoken shame

with one simple act, missing the fact,

and only ignorance, left to blame,
-----------------------------------------------

I wont even stoop to critise,

everythings now beyond me,

for the truth has been told, the flames far from cold,

and the knives theyre waiting for me.

why they all cried, the need that you have,

to never reliquish this name,

dont you know after all,all seriousness aside,

it is after all, just a game,
-----------------------------------------
But how could they know, they never could know,

nothing of what goes on inside,

The time that has passed, the present the past,

the feeling of genuine pride,
------------------------------------------------
I could say i was alone, but why should i lie,

my mouth it cares to talk free,

the name alone, was for the city to own,

its not about ego for me
...............................................
so do as you please, take what you will,

ask no favours of me,

i never once lied,i have dignity and pride,

while your conscience will never be free,
...............................................

the times they move on,cornershops all now gone,

The big guns, they take and they keep,

but its not a game, and theres more to a name,

makes me wonder how some people sleep

"Only Alone"

do i look like a victim
so easily led
was it my hermit ways
that made you forget
i'm not really desperate
i just don't like the phone
it may look like i'm lonely
but i'm only alone

i try to remember
what made me move on
the things i've forgotten
are already gone
i don't need a memory
to tempt me from home
it may look like i'm lonely
but i'm only alone

i'd live in the past
but there's only regret
i'd rather stumble along
it's as good as i get
i'm not looking for pity
in this world that i own
it may look like i'm lonely
but i'm only alone

Dream of the far hours when
We were exiled beyond the pale
Of our happiness; draw again
Over our love that ancient veil.

Offer your lips to the evening breeze
That sings among the branches and passes,
Lay back your head on my knees,
Where the river the willow glasses.
Rest in my hands your head
Tired with the weight of the autumn in its tresses red,
And dream! This is the hour of snow.

Some say they received a signal
Impossible to say if thats true,´
Can only guess at why theyre here
I am shocked as much as you

Trust is our only option
Useless to think of less
Recognising there mission
Addressing whats for best

Domination could be possible
Annhilation thats the major fear
Sooner or later we,ll know the truth
They,ll tell us why they are here
Rue the day we called them,it was better when we were alone
All our questions are now answered ,ET please go home

It's so comforting to see
those little green things pop up for me
they were just little seeds
now they will grow and grow, for my needs

Now Winter gives me his hand to hold,
I hold his hand, his hand so cold;

And in slow whiteness there arise
Pale shimmering tents deep in my eyes;

It is a voyage round about,
Too swift to drive my fever out,

To all the countries where you die,
Sailing the seas as years go by,

And all the while the tempest beats
Upon the ships of my white sheets,

That surge with starlight on them shed,
And all their swelling sails outspread

I taste upon my lips the salt
Of ocean, like the bitter malt

Drunk in the land's last orgy, when
From the taverns reel the men;

And now I see that land I know:
It is a land of endless snow...;

Make thou the snow less hard to bear,
O Mary of good coverings, there,

And less like hares my fingers run
Over my white sheets that fever spun.

There was no time for pain
No energy for anger
The sightlessness of hatred slips away
Walking through winter streets alone
He stops and take a breath
With confidence and self-control

I look at the world and see no understanding
I'm waiting to find some sense of strength
I'm begging you from the bottom of my heart
To show me understanding

I need to live life
Like some people never will
So find me kindness
Find me beauty
Find me truth
When temptation brings me to my knees
And I lay here drained of strength
Show me kindness
Show me beauty
Show me truth

The way your heart sounds makes all the difference
It's what decides if you'll endure the pain that we all feel
The way your heart beats makes all the difference
In learning to live
Here before me is my soul
I'm learning to live
I won't give up
Till I've no more to give

Listening to the city
Whispering its violence
I set out watching from above
The 90's bring new questions
New solutions to be found
I fell in love to be let down

Once again we dance in the crowd
At times a step away
From a common fear that's all spread out
It won't listen to what you say
Once you're touched you stand alone
To face the bitter fight
Once I reached for love
And now I reach for life

Another chance to lift my life
Free the sensation in my heart
To ride the wings of dreams into changing horizons
It brings inner peace within my mind,
As I'm lifted from where I've spilt my life
I hear an innocent voice
I hear kindness, beauty, and truth

The way your heart sounds makes all the difference
It's what decides if you'll endure the pain that we all feel
The way your heart beats makes all the difference
In learning to live
Spread before you is your soul
So forever hold the dreams within our hearts
Through nature's inflexible grace
I'm learning to live

John Myung(Dream Theater)

This is a song from Dream Theater. The first time I heard it I was in the first few weeks of recovery(15+ years now)I kept myself sane reading and remembering this song/poem. I was forced to relearn how to live in every way. these are/were my inspiration to do more with myself then live in a bottle. I'm not aware of why he wrote this but it made all the difference in the world to me

"Love Is Comin' Back Home"

who says fate and destiny
rules the heart to kill your ecstasy
leaves you sittin' all alone
then you see
love is comin' back home
who says sad and lonely
means you won't have your one and only
you'll be starin' at your phone
then you hear
love is comin' back home

and where do you go to find
you've not been wastin' all your time
what the summer sky has shown
it means that
love is comin' back home
who knows where the end begins
and where to drawn the line and find
you won't be dressed in gloom for long
cause you know
love is comin' back home

"The Writer" is good, Dan. My apologies for not posting mine, "Visions from a Crystal Ball". If I can -- with your permission -- move it into your file, will give it a try. If not, perhaps you might be able to give advice/move it, yourself.

Cheers,

"What Is A Lady Like That To Do"

mrs. miggins in her hideaway
will rise to greet another day
put out the dog
and read this morning's news
she's too young to be bitter
too old to be cool
what is a lady like that to do?

mrs. miggins in her reverie
is not the way she seems to be
call in the dog
and forget this morning's blues
she's a bird that can twitter
not once she's been fooled
what is a lady like that to do?

she could have been the sweet on the arm of a dandy
if she took the chance
she could have been as good or should i say randy
as any social at the social dance

mrs. miggins and her coffee cup
drinks it down and fills it up
could have had cream
but those bills are overdue
she's the sweetest of candy
for those lads back in school
what is a lady like that to do

Dear is thy bandage, Love,
To my heavy lids that it closes;
It weighs like the sweet burden of
Sunshine on frail, white roses.

I walk as to voices that call,
I seem over waters to hover,
And every wave, like a lover,
Folds round my feet as they fall.

Who has unloosened my tresses,
As through the dark places I came?
Girdled with unseen caresses,
I plunge into willows of flame.

My lips, where my soul is crooning,
Open in swift desire,
Like a tender blossom swooning
Over a river on fire

"Streets Of Gold"

lookin' for the right way
lookin' real hard
can't seem to understand
the world outside my yard
i'm gonna take a road trip
let the feelin' take a hold
gonna take a ride on them streets of gold

headed for the ocean
lookin' for to see
a better way of livin'
more befittin' me
i wanna take some chances
let freedom take a hold
wanna take a ride on them streets of gold

crowded cities leave me lonesome
there's so far for me to go
gonna seek what i've been lacking
on them shiney streets of gold

lookin' for the answer
headed out the door
key in the ignition
pedal to the floor
i wanna find a place
like the storytellers told
wanna take take a ride on them streets of gold

"Dream X"

christmas tree shape in the northeast sky
a giant comet with a million eyes
is it hello or is it goodbye?

a candle of hope or a beacon of doom
from the sky to your living room
in my dreams the image looms

the future shines in the light of a random dream
the image clear...the message vague
some to fall and some to save
and some trapped in between

Not original as usual, but necessary.......

We Robbed Trains
Eddy Raven

Cowboys and outlaws and long shiney rails
were the background setting for Grand Pappy's tales
Places like Tucson and old Santa Fe
Cheyenne, Wyoming in rodeo days

I'd sit there for hours perched on his knee
and ride just as far as his memory could see
with Billy the Kid and the one Jesse James
Rail riding outlaws who robbed lots of trains

And he'd tell me those stories about Billy the Kid
One Jesse James and some things that they did
He said I knew them well, son, just like my own name
Billy, and Jesse, and me, we robbed trains

But a boy don't stay seven all of his life
And he starts to wonder what's truth and what's lies
Still respect makes him listen to an old man's refrain
About a wild bunch of cowboys and some make believe trains

Now the funeral was family as funerals should be
except for two cowboys no one else could see
Then they were gone just as quick as they came
Billy and Jesse had robbed one more train

Let me tell you a story about Billy the Kid
One Jesse James and some things that they did
Because I knew them well, son, just like my own name
Billy, and Jesse, and me, we robbed trains

My poor hands, so wan and faded,
Agile once as a bird,
My rhythms of speech you aided,
And by my brain you were stirred;

Poor wrinkled hands, like two
Old women worn and wizened,
My thoughts run on, but you
In listlessness are prisoned.

Yet I bless you, my hands now that strife
Is done, and the heart reposes;
You taught me the touch of roses;
and the caresses of life.

All the hands you touched, hands of brothers,
And the women you loved in dole,
And the faithfull hands of mothers;
I bear you yet in my soul.
