I'm glad you liked the poems, Julie. Sometimes, they can heal -- whether
read, or written.

Tracey K. Smith,
from her book
"Life on Mars",
"The Universe as Primal Scream"
5pm on the nose. They open their mouths
And it rolls out: high, shrill and metallic.
First the boy, then his sister. Occasionally,
They both let loose at once, and I think
Of putting on my shoes to go up and see
Whether it is merely an experiment
Their parents have been conducting
Upon the good crystal, which must surely
Lie shattered to dust on the floor.
Maybe the mother is still proud
Of the four pink lungs she nursed
To such might. Perhaps, if they hit
The majic decibel, the whole building
Will lift-off, and we'll ride to glory
Like Elijah. If this is it--if this is what
Their cries are cocked toward--let the sky
Pass from blue, to red, to molten gold,
To black. Let the heaven we inherit approach.
Whether it is our dead in Old Testament robes,
Or a door opening onto the roiling infinity of space.
Whether it will bend down to greet us like a father,
Or swallow us like a furnace. I'm ready
To meet what refuses to let us keep anything
For long. What teases us with blessings,
Bends us with grief. Wizard, thief, the great
Wind rushing to knock our mirrors to the floor,
To sweep our short lives clean. How mean
Our racket seems beside it. My stereo on shuffle.
The neighbor chopping onions through a wall.
All of it just a hiccough against what may never
Come for us. And the kids upstairs still at it,
Screaming like the Dawn of Man, as if something
They have no name for has begun to insist
Upon being born.

"Not The Same"
you can look at me with your eyes
but i'm not the same
not the same as the one you think you see
you can tell me over and over
that i haven't changed
whatever you're seeing
it isn't me
i've put a million miles on this heart of mine
now there's a wreck
where perfection used to be
you tell me
smile
smile
everything is alright
it's alright
when i know most certainly it's not
i can't be the man i used to be
the man you somehow think you've got

A sad one, Dan. Perhaps, someday, all of us can gather over a favorite
beverage, and have a "reading".

I Want My Cake
I want my cake,
and, eat it, too.
The trouble is --
there's not much left,
for you.

Having caught a little gentle flack from my friends, here, I'd like to
say that "I Want My Cake" is a social commentary, with global
intent.
Any cake eaten, by yours truly, would be gladly shared
with one, and all, of my Seti-ites.

An Oldie to fit my mood.
Old One
While sitting on a mountain
And looking to the west
With evening sunset glowing
On dew upon your chest
The chilling breezes touch your skin
The fear is gone away
You've made your peace and done your lot
The darkness falls to stay
You look into the stars once more
To say your final prayer
Nature gives the incense
To lift it from your heart
There are no more regrets
You never even knew it when you left

Count your garden by the flowers
Never by the leaves that fall
Count your days by the golden hours
Don't remember clouds at all
Count your years with smiles, not
tears
Count your age by friends, not years

As long as I can dream
As long as I can dream,
As long as I can think,
As long as I have a memory,
I will love you.
As long as I have eyes to see
And ears to hear
And lips to speak.
I will love you.
As long as I have a heart to feel,
A soul stirring within me,
An imagination to hold you.
I will love you.
As long as there is time,
As long as there is love,
And as long as I have
a breath to speak your name.
I will love you.

Butterfly
Can you see the colors,
Can you hear the sound,
Do you see the beauty,
They're all around.
It's the butterfly effect
A pretty bird sings
And when you look into my eyes
It's like I'm flying on its wings

THE DOUBTER'S PRAYER
by: Anne Bronte (1820-1849)
TERNAL Power, of earth and air!
Unseen, yet seen in all around,
Remote, but dwelling everywhere,
Though silent, heard in every sound;
If e'er thine ear in mercy bent,
When wretched mortals cried to Thee,
And if, indeed, Thy Son was sent,
To save lost sinners such as me:
Then hear me now, while kneeling here,
I lift to thee my heart and eye,
And all my soul ascends in prayer,
OH, GIVE ME--GIVE ME FAITH! I cry.
Without some glimmering in my heart,
I could not raise this fervent prayer;
But, oh! a stronger light impart,
And in Thy mercy fix it there.
While Faith is with me, I am blest;
It turns my darkest night to day;
But while I clasp it to my breast,
I often feel it slide away.
Then, cold and dark, my spirit sinks,
To see my light of life depart;
And every fiend of Hell, methinks,
Enjoys the anguish of my heart.
What shall I do, if all my love,
My hopes, my toil, are cast away,
And if there be no God above,
To hear and bless me when I pray?
If this be vain delusion all,
If death be an eternal sleep,
And none can hear my secret call,
Or see the silent tears I weep!
Oh, help me, God! For thou alone
Canst my distracted soul relieve;
Forsake it not: it is thine own,
Though weak, yet longing to believe.
Oh, drive these cruel doubts away;
And make me know, that Thou art God!
A faith, that shines by night and day,
Will lighten every earthly load.
If I believe that Jesus died,
And waking, rose to reign above;
Then surely Sorrow, Sin, and Pride,
Must yield to Peace, and Hope, and Love.
And all the blessed words He said
Will strength and holy joy impart:
A shield of safety o'er my head,
A spring of comfort in my heart.

Dreamer
I am a dreamer but when I
wake
You can't break my spirit,
it's my dreams you take.
And as you move on, remember
me.
Remember us and all we used to
be...

A leaf meant to fall
I've waited so long.
Why did I ever think
you'd come back?
I'm still waiting.
But I'll keep on dreaming.
My colour is losing hold.
I'm a leaf meant to fall
into caught up greed.
I don't dare to let go.
Scared to fall,
afraid to break.
Into a thousand pieces.
So I'll keep on dreaming.
When it's full moon
and the stars shape my face,
when you stare at a fallen leaf...
First full of life and colour.
Now dead and insignificant.
Will you remember me?
Or did you forget me long ago?

Beauty
You're so beautiful...
So wonderful...
I can't miss you.
I swear that's true.
I can't even believe you were mine...
You're so beautiful.
But everything's just fine...
So wonderful...
I wish you were here next to me.
Then I could see
That sparkle in your eyes.
I will tell you no lies.
I can't...
Resist your tender lips.
I put my arms around your hips.
And pull you closer...
You become the air I breathe.
With every inch you come closer...
For you, I'll bleed.
I'm sure
This love is pure
This love is the cure...
I will see
You're so beautiful.
You're here with me.
So wonderful...
