Hello, new to this form and SETI. I am confused as to how to set my computer to work from 10:30pm till the following day at 5:00pm. Thus, taking a break from 5pm till 10:30pm.

Cheers,

Once you set your preferences online, it doesn't take effect until your client contacts the servers, which happens a maximum of 24 hours later. Or you can force a contact with the servers by opening BOINC Manager, selecting the Projects tab, then selecting SETI@Home, then click on the Update button on the left.

That would be "Do work only between the hours of 22:30 and 17:00"

Gruß,
Gundolf

I am a little confused, if u could possibly explain a little bit more about how to set the do work between. I currently built a new system that works very well, the problem is my wife has to work in the same office, and when my computer is processing units the fans are bumpin up to about 70-90 percent and it is very loud for her. Is the time frame based on local cpu time or seti server time, I'm trying to figure this out.

I guess my main concern is trying to figure out how to set the do work between times and how the times reflect on my current time zone, what should I be looking for?

The option is for local time (as dictated by your computer's clock).

So, for example, if you do not want the computer to crunch between the hours of 8:00AM and 5:00PM, select "Do work only between the hours of 17:00 and 8:00" because you want the work to start after 5:00PM (17:00) and stop at 8:00AM in the morning.

It will suspend all projects if you select "Run based on preferences" from the Activity menu.

Check also that the local preferences show the same schedule or clear them, because they otherwise override the online preferences.

Gruß,
Gundolf

Also make certain that the activity menu indicates "run based on preferences". If it is set to either run always or suspended, then the preferences are ignored.

Oh thank you all, I'm not used to trying to slow this puppy down, lol. I forgot the run based on preferences was even there. Thank you again everyone. This is awesome having a machine I actually have to slow it down for some reason. Haha:)
